PSP Troubleshoot: Screen colors Inverted?
Moderator:Moderators
I'm trying to fix a PSP for someone my Dad works with and I need some help. Heres the history of what I know about it:
1. PSP-1001. No mods, from what I can tell
2. PSP dropped, lcd ruined
3. New lcd ordered, replaced by the owner, apparently worked fine for a couple of hours(?) video went black
4. Untouched for 8 months
5. given to me as last ditch effort to try and fix
When I first boot it up, the Sony Computer Entertainment screen shows up fine (in white) and then it does some animation and it fades to black (listed above as #3, from what I can tell). It seems to me that the colors are inverted and only certain menus are visible this way. Blindly going thru the menu screens some of them show up but are washed out pretty bad and hard to read.
So I pop in a game. This is what I see (top picture)
Bottom pic I shopped to see if the colors were indeed inverted; looks pretty good to me.
Anyone ever have a problem like this before? When hearing the condition of it I was hoping it was just loose connections from when the lcds were switched but I guess its a bit more complex than that so I'm out of ideas haha

Y'know, this may sound stupid, but maybe whoever installed the screen accedentally reversed one of the wires?
I get a lot of bad ideas, so don't listen to me.

Anyways,
Therin lies the problem(more likely than not):New lcd ordered, replaced by the owner, apparently worked fine for a couple of hours(?) video went black
Scenario: He might not have put in the ribbon cable all the way, and after a few hours of playing(moving?), it came loose. A couple contacts were bridged, and the LCD freaks out. Try opening it, just be really careful w/ the screws, they have to go in the right spots or it will be unstable.

Ya that's the first thing I tried (as that would be the extent of my knowledge) but didn't seem to help any. Someone suggested that I reinstall the firmware so I'll prolly just upgrade it (once I get the charger) since I would need to so to play Lego Batman anyways (and it's not modded)

I'm having the same problem and was wondering if anyone has found a solution. I have a 1001 series, unmodded. I've taken it apart and can't fix the problem, but looking at the inverted pic posted here on my psp it displays in normal colors. Any help would be appreciated.

Try reinstalling the firmware... To me, this sounds like some custom firmware author playing a prank on people.
Re: PSP Troubleshoot: Screen colors Inverted?
It's not custom firmware. My PSP isn't modded in any way. I just updated it to the current firmware.
Re: PSP Troubleshoot: Screen colors Inverted?
I ended up buying a new screen, everything works fine now (glad it wasn't a motherboard issue lol).
