What is this place?

The benheck.com modding showcase was created to provide a convenient and uniform outlet for video game hardware hackers to strut their projects. Though the benheck.com forums provide a vast community between said hackers, they generally fail to welcome a larger audience of potential enthusiasts. Use this site to show your latest completion and merge in with many others in the creation of a large collection of video game modifications.

Yeah, that's great. How do I use it?
  • Check out new project updates at the Home page.
  • View and search through all of the submitted works using the Projects page.
  • See who's creating all of these projects and find possible commission workers through the Modders area.
  • Submit and manage your own projects using the User Panel.
  • All submissions and changes will be reviewed by our moderators to achieve professionalism.

If anyone has any questions or comments about this new subsection of the site, please let us know. I look forward to seeing a great collection of everyone's projects! :)

Love,
Skyone & The Moderation

P.S. We'll have some real (fitting) ads soon. Ignore that repetition.

If anyone has any crits on the new logo let me know while I still have the files opened up ;) Otherwise it will be here to stay, unless Ben cares to make another one.

Looks really good so far!

There needs to be a hot glue gun in the logo somewhere as well. It seems appropriate. :D

Yeah, on the other side. That'd be cool!

How can I recreate this issue? I assume it was when you submitted a project/upload a picture. How big was the picture you uploaded? (resolution and physical size) What format was it?

Thanks for your help. :)

EDIT: I might have fixed the issue. Let me know if you get it again.

So if we are part of the forums, we can add projects to the page? I think this is a really friggen sweet feature for the forums, but I can see one problem.. Noobs just creating accounts and spamming stupid things on the page. (ie porn, or just stupid internet memes) I know it would be a lot of work, and rather subjective, but maybe we could make it so only members from a certain group could access it? (Possibly like, if you've posted a completed project, you get access, but not a special title on the forums?)

Overall, I think this is a really really cool feature to the forums.

P.S: Do they have to be portables to be on the page? Or are we allowed to post other gaming related projects? (Like my wireless sensor bar that I made)
P.P.S: Are we allowed to add other peoples projects? I wouldn't mind taking a few hours and just uploading tons of projects to make the database bigger.

The showcase is open for submissions to anyone that has a forum account. The "spamming" that you speak of will be rejected, because all projects go through the moderators before they are shown.

- Submissions do not have to be portables. They can be any other sort of complex video game related projects. For example, we would reject a blindingly simple case mod. However, if you plan to submit your sensor bar, I'd over-complicate it and post a well-diagrammed guide along with it. :)
- That is not permitted, as to respect the intellectual rights of another's work. Sorry about that.

You are, of course, more than welcome to encourage others to submit their projects.

Ok. Now, you mean post a well-diagrammed guide on the forums, and then just link that in the build log? And I submitted it before I got to read this, and I noticed you can only have 1 picture during submission. You can add more later? Or can only mods have multiple images in theirs?

edit: Just realized you can have HTML in your posts. Guess we just use that.

You can either link to an external build log, or you can build a how-to on the actuall project page using HTML, it's all up to you.

You use HTML to embed extra images into your projects - they'll be dynamically resized to 500px high/wide using client-sided css/javascript. You can also use the < youtube > tags to automatically embed youtube videos. :)

If you want to make changes/improvements to your projects, do so using the "edit" button in your user panel.

I think this is a good idea, Moderators.

One thing I will suggest, there are dozens of portables that have been done in the past by members who have left. How about PMing these people (in ACP you can see their e-mail accounts) and see if they are happy to have theirs listed. How about a section to include pics of systems people made here but have left the forum and can't be contacted, with the caveat that if the people who made the systems want them removed at any stage, they can be. This is not appropriate for existing members of course, they can choose to have their work included or not, I was just referring to lost members.

If we run across any cool projects by lost members, we can contact them, yes. However, we plan on this being a long-term project that will grow over time and hopefully attract new modders and new projects. Don't let that discourage you too from reaching out to old members at all, though.

Thanks for the feedback. :)

Can't contact old members, don't know their e-mail addresses (your Admin have their e-mails on ACP), no point PMing them here as by definition if they have left they won't get the messages.

Is there a way to add a "change author" function to the showcase backend? I know you wrote it to integrate with the phpbb database, so it probably goes by user ID number or something, right?
