use a game engine not a maker with a built in scene editor.

Game maker is ok. if you want to create 8 bit glory
HOLY FREAKIN MOTHER OF JESUS CHRIST! THAT CASE IS HUGE!

Perhaps you may buy a smaller one.

I'm all for a simple reskin of SSB, but the problem with that would be the limited amount of characters. I'd want to be in there somewhere, but I'm nowhere near as big as SS or Palmer.

Reskinning something as low-quality (graphics-wise) as SSB wouldn't be too hard, assuming we kept the character models and moves.
Project LASER had Skyone, Black Six, Me, a few good artists making sprites, among others. It also had a sticky; Two of them, in fact, the recruitment thread, and the progress thread.

Not trying to discourage, just saying that hacking an existing game is a lot more likely to take off than making, or even using a pre-existing, engine.

By the way, I was speaking of re-skinning Super Smash Bros Brawl, for Wii. ;)

I actually have an idea, probably crappy.

What about a TF2-like game, except with Benheckers. Of course it would have somewhat silly weapons, like most of the people would have a hot glue gun (pistol?). Maybe vehicles too? Probably better as a mod.

How about a half-life/2 mod?
Maybe the rebirth of GTP, like I suggested a long time ago, but never got anyone to help.

depending on whether this ends up being a mod or a small game from scratch, I can do models...and help with music.

I've been keeping my game on the low down, but if we were to use xna for the 360, I could hook you up with the source for Turtle Man

jk its really bad, all I have so far is your a turtle and you can move back and forth, and sort of jump. But the turtle sprite is pretty awesome.

Actually, not only is Brawl a great game, but it can be emulated on PC now with Dolphin. It can also be played in HD with dolphin, something not possible with a real Wii.

If your still trying to make a game, I'd use the Source Engine, with a small project or just starting off you just need a mapper & a coder.
