Controller flanks are very win, but these look very...uh...unstable. Small, really. I hope they don't cause problems!

How much button is there outside of the case?
Definitely more than usual. Not, much, though, but that's why the flanks will be so thin.

Well, I don't have any money yet. :P I hope to sell some DVD burner laser diodes to Palmer. Perhaps I can buy it from you then. How small is the board inside?

The N64 will be contained completely inside the case. :) Thing is, though, the whole portable will have to be about 2 inches thick. Still fine to hold, though.

They're bolted on tightly, with washers, and the plastic backing will be screwed into it. It'll be strong, don't worry.

Here are my plans for my portable. It is an extremely simplistic design. Besides the controls, the only thing on the outside will be the volume slider and the power button (not switch). The back will be on hinges at the bottom with magnets at the top. You open it, and the N64 cart slides in like a cassette. That's why it has to be so thick. :P

Also, added an awesome sigbar (made from scratch in photoshop) that links to the latest update in this thread. If you're interested, here's the gear in high resolution (PNG, ~300kb, 1000 x 1000px): http://i40.tinypic.com/5ufx42.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Thanks. Seems like everybody likes it.

If you want to build your own, it's pretty straightforward from just the picture, but the Instructable I got it from is here.

I have a 3rd party N64 Controller I'd be willing to trade. Do you have a any 60-72 Pin Converters?

I think after the first portable, you want to take it slow. That's how I feel right now. Oh course summer is going to be nice to do a lot of projects. He did say school was in the way right now.

Yeah, school mostly. I did file the side panels, but that's it. I'll post a picture later. Since school is almost over, there's much less work to do. But I need to raise about $50 right now to buy the rest of the stuff I need. :P

Hi there,
I just joined this site about a minute ago to reply to this topic. :D Anyway, I noticed at the beginning you mentioned selling this console. If you were to, how much would you be willing to sell it for? I've been wanting to portabalize, but have absolutely no experience with electronics except to install new hard drives or ram  So that's why I would be interested in buying a portable like this, especially since you said you were planning on making the cartridge slot fold into the device.

Thanks,
Tails

$350-375 is a good price, is that what you're willing to pay?

And yes, I do have progress. I'll get pictures up in a minute.

Got the sides glued together: (temporarily, with hot glue. they'll be j.b. welded together.)

And thickness.

Keep in mind the case looks rough right now, but it will be painted and sanded to look better. The grill on top is for looks and ventilation, so it won't need a fan.

I haven't gotten much done because of money. So far, the whole thing has been free, but I need to buy batteries, and... a controller. And that's it. I need to get a TI card and built a reliable audio amp, and do a cart relocation.

I've been occupied with other projects, in the meantime, including an N64 mp3 cartridge that plays music over the game's sound (you can see it in the last pic), a remote to control up to 4 different lights in my room, and a mini LED projector. I'll post about the projector soon, because it's finished, but I still need flip-flops for the light remote and money to buy a player for the cartridge.
