Embedding youtube videos in posts?
Moderator:Moderators
Hey, this is just a general suggestion. I know there are mods for phBB3 out there to be able to do this so I'm just putting it out there. Can we have the ability to embed youtube videos in our posts? It would make it heaps more convenient if we could stay on the page and watch a video; now that there is a reference forum, it could be especially useful.
Maybe a mod could pollify this?

Personally, I don't want to wait for the page to load with embedded videos. External links open in new tabs, so it's not like you're losing your place anyway.

I'm all for it, although there should be an option to disable it, for people with slower computers or net connections.

That would be fair to everyone. Does anyone know if it is an option?lifeisbetterwithketchup wrote:I'm all for it, although there should be an option to disable it, for people with slower computers or net connections.

I voted yes. Used sparingly (eg on a News thread) it would be very useful.

Re: Embedding youtube videos in posts?
I voted maybe so
Only because embedding youtube videos on a forum. Can be a good thing or a bad thing. I personally know myself, and that I would not embed a objectable video that would get me banned. And I'm pretty sure most of you here would do the same as me.
But every once and a while. We gets a scammer in here (cough"christian"cough) that tends to post objectable content. Or like what happed to me. Someone hacked (or cracked) my account. And posted objectable content and got me temp banned.
So If this gets done. The video's posted needs to be monitored like a hawk by the mods and admins

Re: Embedding youtube videos in posts?
Maybe for use when approved by a Mod? So they can control that the videos are only posted in appropriate threads?

Re: Embedding youtube videos in posts?
Maybe only let people with XXX posts post videos? Is that even possible?
In any case it should be diableable, and should not automatically start playing or even loading. You should have to start it manually.

Re: Embedding youtube videos in posts?
The potential for abuse makes me vote no.

Re: Embedding youtube videos in posts?
the potential for abuse is why we have moderators, also the videos wont play till you click they play button, pretty simple to just not click it if the content of the video is objective

Re: Embedding youtube videos in posts?
This could be very nifty.
Everything has potential for abuse but disabling everything would kinda suck so why should embedded video be disabled? At least give it a try before complaining about abuse.

Re: Embedding youtube videos in posts?
Not a necessary functionality. Therefore no.
