More info is on the web, but that sums it up. 3D realms is dead, the leaders disbanded and are looking for work, and there is pretty much no chance that it will ever be finished, and if it is, it will not be for this generation. And by the time the next one rolls around, the core gamer audience will be too old to remember about the original.

Oh Duke Nuken Forever! With your teasingly dual meaning name, you caught us year after year, praying for a release. A bug list? YES, IT MUST BE THIS YEAR! But now, it was not to be. E3 TRAILER?! And again, you fall into obscurity. So close to release, and so far from getting there... RIP, 3D Realms.

This makes be unbearably sad.

I've been playing 3d Realms/Epic Megagames games ever since their inception. A farewell-toast to a computer game industry icon.

Wow, the end of an era of waiting for the game that would never come.

Somehow it seems oddly appropriate.

Technically, Take Two could proceed with finishing the game - it's the developer that's going under. If they do get a new developer, though, they'd be starting almost from scratch (yet again) for all intents and purposes.

This definitely could push the release date back a bit...

I'm hoping for elaborate hoax because it's actually gone gold, or 3D Realms is closing because it is in fact done (Ensemble Studios/Halo Wars style)

If they have closed up and everything's gone to seed, this will be the ULTIMATE prototype of all time to find.

Also if everything's said and done we'll finally get the real story behind it all.

If only they hadn't wasted so much time making (or failing to make) DNF...this might not have happened (if this is indeed true).

Hah. Noobs. That's what you get for being too slow in such a rapidly advancing industry.

Wow, DNF could have made 3D realms, but instead it broke it. Maybe if they'd stuck with an engine instead of changing it and having to redo all the sprites/models/whatever.

This is tragic, even if its picked up by another developer we'll have another long long wait. :(

Still waiting for some kind of official announcement from George. This is sad. Incredibly sad. I need closure.

It's weird. It feels like a huge chunk of what I considered "gaming" just shriveled up, fell off and died. Yet at the same time, I never exactly had my hands on it at any point to begin with. It's like suddenly having 100% proof that aliens don't exsist or some such. Only not. I don't know. It just sucks.
