Sprocket64: N64p Worklog

Post by Mario » Tue Apr 21, 2009 10:00 pm

I'm in the process of making another N64 portable, this time to sell. Plus, these things are just so fun to make! :)
Here's the battery and screen I am using: (Has my NESp hooked up)

Here's a close-up of the screen:

It has great quality, but not really comparable to the PSone screen.

It goes into widescreen with the flip of a switch:

Back of the screen:

The screen is 7" diagonal, by the way.

Here is the back of the case cut out, with an N64 cart for size.

Can anybody guess what these are? :P

What about now?

^My vision for the case. I'm going with an extremely simplistic design. It'll be about 1.75" thick, but the controls (the vacuum-formed pieces) are .5" thick.

More later, gotta get to bet right now.

Total cost so far: $0.

I had the same question as sam. Also, what battery?
E: I don't like that the buttons are far up, personally, I think I would want them near the middle. Keep us updated.

Seems really cool. But there's no place to rest your palms on besides the screen. But I suppose letter boxes are finally useful.

I got the screen for free, because my uncle works at an electronics processing plant. He got me 4 DVD players (only one of which didn't play DVDs), two of them had batteries that work. He got me two screens, one of which is this one I'm using.

EDIT: Going to get these batteries instead. They'll fit in my case better. Also, changed the name of the project.

it's cool when your relatives work for places like that. my dad works for mead westvaco, and he has brang home bunches of stuff free that would cost 100's of dollars at a hardware store, like pipes, valves, an unused photo processing room door(it's a huge sliding door!) 100's of feet of wires, power sanders, reciprocating cutters, a welding machine, a big ass pipe wrench, grinders, a broken impact wrench(that can be EASILY fixed) a huge assortment of allen wrenches, a huge assortment of wrenches, 50,000 rpm electric motors, a giant air compressor, and even huge sheets of bullet proof plexi-glass.

I live on a farm, got all that stuff  Except for the photo processing door. The only downside is that everything gets broken and then put away, so when the next person comes, they have to fix it.

Isn't all plexiglass bullet proof? Because we have loads of it, but I'm not supposed to mess with it. :(

acrylic sheet is a 1.25" thick, transparent cell cast acrylic sheet. ACRYLITE BR sheet is listed as a UL 752 Level 1 bullet resistant product for indoor and outdoor applications.
i'm pretty sure acrylic is plexiglas

What brand of DVD player is the screen out of? I have a screen out of a Durabrand (something like that, cheap walmart brand) that looks very similar to yours.
