Looking for N64 schematics/pinouts

Re: Looking for N64 schematics/pinouts
I had a thought.
Well, just a quick question really :p
Would the Gerber or DXF files of the N64 PCB be of any use to you?
I mean, I can see how they would, but would you actually *prefer* them over anything else.
Because I can get the Gerber files for the N64 PCB.
Not very cheap (sadly), but it's not hard.

Hi,
Thanks for the offer, but the schematic is pretty much complete now on Eagle. It just needs some routing done on the PCB layout, but I should be able to get a board made up in the next few weeks if I can get enough money together.
May I ask if this would be from someone who reverse-engineers the N64 PCB, or is it from an original "source"?
OzOnE.

PCB scanning services can work wonders, I figured, hey, why not save the trouble?
But if you're already nearly complete, it certainly doesn't seem worth paying in the upwards of $200 for information you've gathered yourself.

I'd certainly like to hear back from this guy, see if he's done any more work on the schematics...

Re: Looking for N64 schematics/pinouts
I'd love to play stereoscopic N64... that's even cooler to me than a smaller N64 mobo (which would be amazing nonetheless).
Can you imagine bringing that to MGC? You'd have probably half of the attendees in a line when the doors opened. We'd need to set up a few units, especially if they were linked together via LOB64.

I mean, it's awesome enough playing N64 games in 3D using an emulator.
With a real N64? That'd just be great.

What emulator supports that? When did that start?jleemero wrote:I mean, it's awesome enough playing N64 games in 3D using an emulator.

But using Stereoscopic 3D drivers, you can do it with *most* games.
Now, I really recommend the Official Nvidia 3D Drivers for most games, HOWEVER, it will NOT work with ANY N64 emulators
So, try out iZ3D Drivers.
Scroll back a bit through this thread, I talk about it a bit.
It's free, it's simply drivers, and adds Stereo 3D support to *most* DirectX and OpenGL games.

I ignored this thread because I thought it was a noob thread, but the info inside is amazing. Too bad the guy seems to have left. I want a mini64!

Re: Looking for N64 schematics/pinouts
This is a very interesting thread, pity he hasn't posted updates for a while.
Using 3D glasses is fine but of course you can't use them for long as it makes your eyes feel strange. It would be interesting if someone managed to redesign the board, fortunately however, the board isn't too big; removing the surplus grounding and cart slot and rewiring it makes a board small enough to take the PSone screen and controls without much surplus area; which is fine of course unless you're a nut like me wanting to make the board smaller still!

Re: Looking for N64 schematics/pinouts
Hi,
I'm still here! (if it's me your talking about?)
I haven't done anything with the project for a while due to money constraints and I'm putting any money I do have into my DIY amp project.
It would be fun to play with this stuff some day, but I don't think it will be any time soon. I did buy some Kynar wire to try to connect the N64 to an FPGA, but I don't have enough pins on my cheapo FPGA (Pluto-II). Also, nobody that I've e-mailed about the inner working of the N64 (or MESS) has replied yet, so I there are many things are would need help with before thinking about starting an actual project.
I have built a 3D glasses controller though. This is to work with the IZ3D drivers, since they seem to work great with ATI graphics cards. The problem is, there is no easy way to control the glasses directly (like nVidia cards do), so I've made a controller to read the "blue-line" code. It's not finished yet, but most of the software is done.
Anyway, I'll keep an eye on this thread, but don't hold your breath for a project. I don't think I can afford to spend too much time on this as I have SOOOO many other projects rattling around in my brain.
Cheers,
OzOnE.
