Swoopo... scam or what?

Post by robm » Tue Mar 03, 2009 10:22 pm

Ok.

I keep seeing these ads for Swoopo. I've checked them out, seen their ended auctions, and it *appears* to be legit. There seem to be a few quesitonable practices, but all in all, seems like some good deals can be had.

Has anyone had any experience with them?

You pay for every "bid" and it is called "entertainment shopping" and each bid extends the amount of time left on the "auction"

It's pretty much a legal form of online gambling.

swoopo is legit, however its nearly impossible to win any thing there. the reason they can afford to sell things so cheap, is that each bid costs 1 dollar. each bid placed raises the timer 15 seconds and raises the price $0.15, so when they sell an ipod for fifty bucks, they have made at least 300$, minus the cost of the ipod, which, wholesale is about 75$ to 100$ per unit. also, if the time runs out and you dont win, you lose all the bids you placed on the auction. by the odds, i would say slot machines have a better chance of payout. ipod touch for 28.50 my arse!

Looks like we get ads with dangerously low prices or incredibly high prices. swoopo $33 for xbox 360; shopping.com $700 for cart only Super Mario Bros NES.

I'd be nice to get one right in the middle with average prices haha

I got freaking spyware from that site. Then I just ended up with more and more spyware until I had to reformat. Curse you Internet Explorer!

...and I still use Internet Explorer.
