Retro 64 - Nintendo64 Portable

Post by Mario » Mon Feb 23, 2009 11:08 pm

Here is what all my time, money and sweat has gone into for the past 3 months. A Nintendo 64 portable! This portable is (currently) the smallest N64 portable (meaning it has internal batteries, unlike Sifuf's) known to man. It is also the first to implement the LOB64 multiplayer interface. Here are some specs:
- 7.5 inches wide, 5.25 inches tall, and 1.5 inches thick. (19cm x 13cm x 3.8cm)
- 5 hour battery life (6000mAh li-ions)
- 5" LED modded screen
- Custom AV out port that shuts off the screen when the AV cable is plugged in
- Includes controller expansion port, D-Pad and L button
- Has a slot for either jumper or expansion pack
- Headphone jack
- Integrated screen controls
- Low-battery LED
- LOB64 port
- Overclocked N64 to 2.0x

Here are some pictures of this bad boy:

I agree with grossaffe, these pictures really show off how very attractive the whole unit is much more efficiently. Beautiful work, and as I mentioned in your build thread, I think having the screen outside the case makes it look even cooler.

Two questions- what is going on with the C-buttons, and what do the buttons below the triggers do?

Nice portable. I'd build one, but I can't find a screen cheap enough.

It's plastic, from a cologne case.

The C buttons spin a bit, so some are facing the wrong way.
The button below Z is L, and below R is Start.

Like I said before, it's boxy, but an awesome kind of boxy. I love it!

Very slick with the two Z buttons/triggers on the back.

Very nice work! I like how you mounted the screen. Very impressive feature list, and such a clean build. I salute you!

Which port is your custom AV out? Is it the network port on top, or the serial port on back?
This post brought to you by David Duchovny's glorious nipples.
