I'm going to include a LOB64 port into my portable!

We need to make a standard lob64 pinout so if we do ever meet they will be compatible with a simple internet cord.
We should probably start with mario's since he was the first one to do it. It might also be good to make a slave AND master port.

I don't know about using "just any" choke or diode, but considering I got those parts from a circuit board that came with the screen, I assumed that they were there for that very reason. Turns out I was right.Mario wrote:So, Brian, that's just a standard choke and standard diode, right? Any will do? Does it get rid of all interference? If I load up Ocarina of Time you can see very faint vertical and diagonal lines in the blue sky, rather annoying.
Check out my worklog, I installed the first LOB64 port in my portable.
If you have something on hand, Mario, go for it. I don't see how a wire wrap could hurt anything, so why not try?
The LOB64 name cracks me up. I feel so special

Brian, can I make a new topic and put the LOB64 standard?

Yeah, but it should be more well known. Like if someone wires the slave differently, like putting video where the controller data should be.
Anyway why is it called lifeofbrian64, sorry I didn't read the entire topic.

We already have an accepted universal symbol for the LOB64 standard:eurddrue wrote:I'm going to include a LOB64 port into my portable!

We already have a standard LOB64 pinout - see page 6.thewise1 wrote:We need to make a standard lob64 pinout so if we do ever meet they will be compatible with a simple internet cord.
A "simple internet cord" does not cross any contacts; it merely connects 1:1, 2:2, etc. You would either need a custom crossover cable or an Eagle Dongle:
Does nobody read previous posts?eagle5953 wrote:As far as using a standard crossover cable, it's not going to work:
As you can see, it switches pins 1 and 3 and pins 2 and 6. This would connect video to audio right and audio left to player 2. For a LOB64 crossover cable, you'd need to connect 1:1, 2:2, 3:3, 4:4, and 6:5. The other pins wouldn't matter.
Therefore, short of making drastic changes to the LOB64 specification, normal crossover cables would not work. Custom crossover cables would be necessary.
What would be ideal is this: make an adapter 'dongle' for converting a standard cat5 to LOB64 crossover. It would continue pins 1, 2, 3, and 4, but connect pin 6 to pin 5. Thus, the player 1 input from portable 2 would be sent down the player 2 line.
master portable - standard cat5 - dongle - slave portable
This 'Eagle Dongle' if I may so name it, would eliminate the need for any sort of custom crossover cable while maintaining compatibility with the Klobio Box and the LOB64 standard.

I have seen page 6. I just didn't know if that was the standard yet, I haven't read every single post down to the letter, now please stop rolling your eyes at me.

Pretty certain I changed the topic to "see page 6 for LOB64 pinout".
Yup.
Mario, you put a lot of thought into it - go make an official thread already!

Re: *Gasp!* (see page 6 for LOB64 pinout!)
More fantastical adventures in electronics land:
Stupid unused expansion port. Easy enough to get rid of. Not reusing it for anything, so I did the approved Bacteria method and ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED IT
And then I snipped off the pins like in this picture.

Hmmm......

HMMMM.....

I made some more room for the joystick and buttons by chopping up the LCD's board a bit.

I probably won't use a C-stick, just checking to see if there was space for one.

Look what I discovered! Three cheers for reusing screw post holes! I had to file it a little to get it to fit, but that only took about 30 seconds of work.

The height is perfect, too:

The placement is quite comfortable when holding the unit.

(^man, what a crappy picture!^)
It fits so perfectly I almost want to use this case just for this reason!

These are just some ideas for the case - nothing is set in stone. It's amazing how much of the N64's board can be done away with. If I do use this case, I'll need to trim it a bit more. The cartridge will probably have to stick out the top a bit, too. Also, I would need to do a relocation on the jumper/expansion pak. That's a major con for this case, since I'm making TWO of these. It might not be so bad if I can successfully make a homemade hot air iron, though.
I'm taking it nice and slow for the case design. I even got a couple of Bacteria's cases just to see how they would do. I've got a lot of ideas - we'll see how it all goes.

Re: *Gasp!* (see page 6 for LOB64 pinout!)
It is sweet how well that fits in the case.
I re-read the entire thread, but I don't think you said what it was you were using for a case. What case is this in the pictures, and what case do you think you will use otherwise?Life of Brian wrote:These are just some ideas for the case - nothing is set in stone. Re: *Gasp!* (see page 6 for LOB64 pinout!)
That's the ag series from polycase.com. I was planning on using that, but seeing as how it's such a tight fit, and you have already trimmed it down, I don't think I'm pro enough yet to use a case that small.
