My GIMP artwork.

Post by Twilight Wolf » Mon Feb 02, 2009 9:36 pm

I thought you guys might be interested in seeing some of this stuff I've made. Nothing terrible special, but I like it nonetheless.

First up is what I call "The Faceless Atari Jaguar Controller." This was one of the first things I made with GIMP, back in July.

Next up is "'Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots'" (Sega Saturn edition)" Made this in August; used it as the background on my YouTube channel for a while.

The last one (for now) is a Sega Saturn game made into a PS3 game: the cult classic "Lunacy," which is one of the best games I've ever played, and one of my very favorites. (The quality isn't the best because the only high-rez scan I could find of the original cover wasn't the greatest.)

I've got some more, too, and I might post them depending on how you guys respond.

What do you think?

They look really good.

The controller is entirely convincing, especially the keypad area. It looks like a sticker is supposed to go there.

The two games are less convincing, probably because the system logos on the left side are impossibly vertical - I mean, they do not deviate by a single pixel. Perhaps it would look more convincing if you had the case laying down at an angle - you know, more natural looking than straight-on.

Hope that helps, and keep going with it! I'm trying to learn GIMP myself.

FYI, my first GIMP edit was the opening scene from The Lion King. I made it look as if Rafiki was holding up my mp3 player instead of Simba - completely random, I know...

Hey, thanks for the input! I'll keep those suggestions in mind for future works.

I'm still a noob at this kind of thing, so the more creative assitance I can get, the better.

I wouldn't say your a noob, but i wouldn't say you're a god, either.
Keep practicing.
Maybe this is just personal preference, but i do think that there are better image editing tools than gimp, but of course none of us has the money for photoshop, though.
Keep at it.

I actually did the math for that when I first made it; it came out to something crazy like 73 discs. You'd have to devote a whole shelf to just one game!

Well, keep in mind the models and textures would be a lot lower-definition.

So maybe 20 discs.

OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA............
Imagine it:
"Snake, please change the disc."
Play another five minutes
"Snake, please change the disc."
 That would be just stupid.
In regards to you, khaag, i got mine for free, because my friend is a cover artist.
So in your face!
(Not really, i just wouldn't pay that crazy amount of money for any program, although i do admit photoshop is AWESOME)

I dunno about the whole amount of discs for the Saturn. They would lower the res, movies would be half frame, all of the extras wouldn't be there, and the visuals would be different. Maybe 6 discs, one for each chapter?

Yeah, I think you guys are right; it'd be way less than 73 discs in any case. I was just basing my math off of the size of a Blu-Ray disc (about 50 gigabytes, give or take a few depending on how it's coded or whatever) and Hideo Kojima's claim that "MGS4" takes up a whole one.

Either way, I'd imagine there's at least one extra disc devoted to "Metal Gear Netlink." (I should make one of those.)

nice job on the MGS4 Sega Saturn Cover. especially since your using GIMP and not Photoshop.

Seeing how this has gone really off topic, maybe it'll be okay if I post something I've done with Paint.NET:

I wouldn't say it's gone really off-topic; the discussion just kind of branched out from the "MGS4" cover I made.

That is a cool picture, though!
