It probably could be done, but not by your average gamer.
Or hardcore gamer.
Someone with some 1337 hacking skillzz
So far, it's been done with XBOX and PS2.
I want the PS2 HDD and the Disk that lets you do such a thing, but I don't want to order it. I am too afraid of having the cops show up with the package.
so roughly 2 games/GB max? hmmm, maybe i'll ask around to see if someone would try this at another forum i go to, http://forums.bit-tech.net , check it out

For a somewhat universal HDD interface you'd use a PIC microcontroller to interface with the hdd, and then interface the PIC with some RAM chips in the correct format for the specific system. For the NES it's not that simple because of the different mappers it uses, so you'd also need to include a FPGA for the nes interface.
Here is what must be done. The DoctorV64, CD64, and DD64 all work on the same principle; they have a built in mobo(used for the menu and interpretting data), which interacts with the ROM filled CD inserted. All that you have to do is replace the built in CD Burner with a HDD(pre-formatted with a set file-system(CD style); only about 5GB needed for holding all games). Copy all the games using a regular N64, then move the mobo and HDD to your N64p(I'd suggest leaving the extension port connector on the mobo for easier hook up). To setup the HDD properly, you would have to tryit on a computer untill your computer reads it as a CD-rom drive. Once you have accomplished this, then you can actually just copy any working emulator roms that you have downloaded(granted that it is a ROM extension supported by that device; all 3 save and read different formats).

I have a friend who knows a guy that does XBox HDDs. He did my friend's HDD. I'm getting my friend to ask the guy if he thinks that he can do it with a blank HDD to be compatible with the 64. If he says he can do it, I will update everyone.
