Xbox 360 emulated controller

Post by stuntpenguin007 » Tue Dec 30, 2008 3:21 pm

would it even be possible to code something where you put an xbox 360 controller in one usb port and a usb cable going from the xbox 360 to the computer in another usb port and press buttons on the cumputer and it would function as a controller for the xbox 360?

I have limited c++ knowledge but its what I've always dreamed of coding.

Yes. With minimal coding, too.

He wants a Computer to act as a controller for Xbox 360.

He opens a program that's emulates the pressing of buttons on a 360 Controller by using Keys on a Keyboard and sends the signals via USB to a 360's USB Port.

Just one question, how would Trigger strength be accomplished?

You could probably have multiple buttons for differant trigger strengths.

and I'm geussing you would have to have some device in between the xbox and your computer to stop it from frying the usb ports (thats what would happen if if you hooked up two usb ports right?) and also I don't think there is any way to code a "product id" (pid) into a usb output.

I'm assuming the pid is what the xbox 360 looks for to tell it that it's a controller. If the firmware of a usb mouse could be hacked to have the pid of an xbox 360 controller, then plugging it into an xbox 360 would make the controller light appear although the mouse wouldn't do anything it would be a start. maybe i'll give it the madcats or microsoft vendor id for authentication.

maybe this will help http://wiki.openmoko.org/wiki/Dfu-util#Binaries

that is if the xbox 360 controller firmware is modifiable...

not quite.... I already knew about xim360 and xfps. What I'm looking at doing is having all the functionality of xim (which require xfps to work) but with a lot less cost and no xfps.

The new XIM doesn't require an XFPS.

I wasn't trying to ruin your fun. In fact, I'm going to make my own custom keyboard & mouse rig using an Arduino that I got for Christmas. I was just saying that if you're wanting something that allows you to use a keyboard and mouse to control games on your XBox 360, then you could save yourself the headache by buying a XIM360.
