The cheapest ones are $1.70 each.

Thanks, though.

I don't think you really can beat that for CDS Cells sadly :?

Roughly $1 with the bulk pricing if you order 50.
Essentially doubling your current cost.

As for buying perfboard in large quantities, it's not gonna happen. I guess I'll have to use small pieces of perfboard to solder the components on to, than add extension wires to the LEDs and glue them down. I can't find 4"x4" squares of perfboard for a decent price.
Well nobody really buys these in bulk, try to find a place where stores can buy them in bulk, or cut down bigger ones.

Geez luweeze, don't post for two weeks and your topic moves down a page and a half! Apparently this is the most active forum.

Just so y'all know, this project is not dead, and neither am I. I finally received the parts, sans LEDs. I had emailed the links to my dad to order, but he forgot about them and didn't actually order the parts until a week later. Oh well, at least I finally got them.
Once I get my LEDs, I'll start putting these boards together. In fact, I'll probably put them together without the LEDs, then add them later.

About the perfboard problem - I decided to buy big pieces from RadioShack, then cut them to 2x2 squares. The circuits will be soldered on those, then extension wires will be added for the LEDs and phototransistor. The LEDs will then be glued in to a piece of wood with holes drilled in it. The phototransistors will be there, too. I'm also increasing the size of each module to 5x5". If it's a bit confusing, see this diagram:

What we have here is the LEDs on the sides, (about 5" apart) the phototransistor in the middle, and the board underneath. The board is only big enough to make the circuit on, then the LEDs are extended and spread out.
