Yes it is nice to be able to put your projects INSIDE something isn't it? You know, to hold everything together so it doesn't flop around? Discuss the techniques here!
I'm going to put in a 24 Hour battery mod, rumble, extended Wifi, dual analog sticks, improved speakers, fan-based cooling system. I got exams coming up but don't fret, I'll continue it when I got more time. Used .080 styrene using vacuum form.
I like your approach of creating a completely new shell for the system rather than attaching stuff to the original case. I think it will look great when you're finished.

Frankencasing always comes out looking... frankencased.
Not true at all. Only if you half-ass it. Vacuum forming looks horrible if you half-ass it also. Anything looks bad half-assed; Come on people, start full-assing things!
Current projects:
Ultimate N64 Guide
N64 Portable (x2)
NES Portable

But the first impression I get from the frank'd one is, "Oh, it's a PS2 controller with a box in it." Which is not as cool as "HOLY CRAP THIS TOTALLY ORIGINAL THING BLOWS MY MIIIIIIIIIND!"
And the Vac. one looks like a 360 controller, pretty badass if you ask me.
you're both right. Frankencasing can be downright ugly. and it takes real skill to make it not look frankencased. But when you think about it, most all of us frankencase, just not as major as cutting a controller in half and putting it on each side.
It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.
wouldnt that be kinda awkward, because if you were using the left aalog stick for movement, at the same time, you would be using the same hand for triangle, x square circle buttons.
