Another Wii Portable, Wii Bawks.

Post by factor » Thu Nov 06, 2008 3:58 am

Hello there, I'm a 15 years old guy who doesn't have anything better to do, so I decided to mod my wii, which I haven't touch since last year, because it's impossible to play it. My room is pretty small.

The wii is pretty simple, so I decided to add a lot of features. Like having a 10.2" widescreen screen, A/V out, A/V in (for screen), keyboard, hdd, a pretty good sound system (loud like a laptop one), headphone, etc. Also, I'll have fun by adding tons of LEDs.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrIFAR_aa44 <-- Here's the video

I can't add picture right now, because I don't have a camera. The video above have a few pictures, but is outdated. As soon as I get a camera, I'll add new pictures.
Ask me anything if you have question, and if you have tips and you want to help me, you're free to do it.

Oh, sorry about my English. I'm from Panama, and English is my second language.

I fail to see how you hooked up a 30gb HDD to it. (Did you use USB?)

Yeah, I used USB. I hope in a future, the hombrew community make a ISO loader that could load games using the USB ports. So you can have plenty of your backups without the need of bringing the games. Fully portable. Also, there will be a feature to use that hdd in a computer, using a USB cable. And maybe I'll install a linux distro, so you can boot linux anywhere you want.

PS: Since a friend of mine broke the 30gb hdd, now I'm using a 80gb one.

No I didn't :P I was in a bit of hurry at the moment.
But when I did a search for it so many links turned up saying it did.
Usually I would have read through properly. Oh well.

I'm fairly sure it does if you softmod it (or hard mod it, for that matter).
Making stuff with my new beautiful CNC machine!
Would you like a professional looking custom case for your portable? I may be able to help you. Check out this link:

No, no it doesn't.

There are a handful of pieces of Wii homebrew that can read files off of USB Mass Storage devices.
That's about it.

Hmm, somebody should write something like that for the homebrew channel. I wish it already worked, sucks that it doesn't already...
So what did you do, factor?

The stereo system

Post by factor » Wed Nov 12, 2008 11:46 pm

Today, I finally finished the stereo system. This system is small but powerful, it plays music louder than my laptop. I solder the speakers to the board, This was one of those portable systems for iPods, but since I don't have one, I decided to hack it. It ran with 4 AAA batteries, which are 1.5v x4 = 6v (Same as usb).

I played lots of music, from rock to trance, rap to metal, bass to jazz. The sound is pretty good and loud enough to hear someone playing a Wii game from another room. I will add the volume control later.

Yeah.. I took the picture using a cell phone. I think the picture's quality is good, but not bad neither. Here are the photos:

Showing how small the stereo system is.

The usb cable soldered to the board.

I got it when I was in USA. Maybe in Target, Wall-Mart or Best Buy. They're called iHome and cost around $10.

I'm not attaching the hard drive, but just connect it via usb. Yeah, it's pretty simple. I hope one day the wii could take the advantage of the hard drive, and hopefully there will be a iso loader, so you could have 80GB of wii games inside of the console =).

Well, yeah, I know it's through USB. But does it work?
