Case construction for a laptop

Yes it is nice to be able to put your projects INSIDE something isn't it? You know, to hold everything together so it doesn't flop around? Discuss the techniques here!

Case construction for a laptop

Post by hoang031 »

Been looking at this forum for a while and decided to sign up finally. My case for my laptop has crapped out on me and I decided I'd like to create my own replacement case. I don't want any fancy features just a regular rectangle with rounded corners that hug the mobo tightly. How would I go about doing this? I was thinking maybe taking the top of the laptop shell that is smooth and making a mold of it. But that would take too long. Then I looked up thermal plastic (using a blow torch). Or I was thinking maybe taking the laptop shell and applying wax and then fiberglassing it. Any opinions on how to approach this on the cheap side?

oh.

that can sometimes get costly though. i know that you want to make your own case, but an idea is use a broken laptops case and mod it.

Yes, I have experience. I have never done vacuum form molding before but know the procedure.
