i was wondering if i can power my nes off a 9 v rechargable battery which also says 8.4 v :?:?:? ??? its a nickel cadmium battery is it safe to use this???

Yep, no problem. It won't last very long though - maybe an hour, hour and a half powering just the system, less than half an hour with a screen like Ben's NOAC setup.
