Trust me, I've looked into all of that crap. I already know how I want to do this now.

And to your earlier post... that's what the daughterboard is for. This small (25mm x 25mm) board will consist of double-sided pins (basically headers) arranged such that they will fit into the holes left once the Gamecube motherboard's P9 connector (the connector that protrudes from the top side of the board, near the B memory card slot) is desoldered, and a flat flex connector. Another flat flex connector will be on the main board, and the two will be connected by a flat flex cable. This is the initial design, at least. Like I said before, I may also provide a board with a spot to solder the CN-101 connector to, which will allow the board to be plugged into the GC mobo in place of the DD.

All of these questions will be addressed soon... trust me.

Just one more question...do you think there would be a possibilty of keeping the DD while having this kit installed? That way If I were to buy a new game I can test it out before dumping the game to the HD, then playing it? Maybe using switches or something? Obviously this wouldn't fit in a GC case but is it possible?

Surely. The easiest way would just be to wire both of them up, and switch their voltage lines. If there's interest, I may look into a version of the board that provides some sort of pass-through for users that wish to do that.

Technically, the easiest way would be if you could find a CN-101 connector (Buy a broken GC off eBay and salvage it, maybe?) that can be soldered onto the IDE/USB board. That way, you could just swap the DD and the IDE /USB board as you please. Alternatively, the P9 connector that must be desoldered from the GC mobo could be soldered onto a secondary daughterboard (which would plug into the CN-101 connector on the DD board) with a flat flex connector on it, allowing you to simply plug the cable into that or the IDE/USB board. There are at least a dozen different ways you could do it, depending on exactly how you want it to work. Personally, I might have a proprietary port on my laptop that will allow the Disk Drive (in it's own special enclosure) to be plugged in and switched over. Maybe not, though. I had that idea when the GC was still popular and the Wii wasn't out yet. I figured it'd be useful if I brought it over to a friend's place or something and they had a game that wasn't on my hard drive. I suppose I would need friends for that to be a concern anyway, though.

Too bad all of this is still just 24 pages of "theoretical" musings...

Or, wait a minute... I almost forgot...hehehe...

If by "it" you mean a gamecube hard drive, then it sounds good.

Not an insult... just some random musings? LOL, just to add to the mysteriousness of it. :P

Oh, I should be ready to unveil the truth tomorrow... might be late tomorrow night, but still. Hopefully it will be enough to justify these 24 pages of bu||5h17 the forum has suffered.
