My entry stands. Before voting, remember I only had about a week to make it.

This is what I submit, it is a finished working n64 portable.

However you wont find a finished topic in news until I am completely satisfied with the case.

:D Good luck everyone!

Photobucket album - many many more pictures here!

Presenting the Nintendo SuperBoy, my entry for the competition. This SNESp was made using a Retro Duo, an AG-85 project enclosure box from polycase.com, an LED modded PSOne LCD screen and two internal 3.7v 3200 mAh li-poly batteries.

This portable features a couple of ideas from other forum members that were just begging to be put together - a comfortable compact case with controls that fit. The joystick is simply a PSOne controller's joystick epoxied on top of a multi-directional tact switch. It is digital, meaning it only registers the normal 4 directions used by a Super Nintendo. Not only is it comfortable to use (no sore thumbs for me!), this thing was made to play StarFox which is one of my all time favorite games.

The durability of this case and the relative ease to make it are some of this portable's strongest points. No paint, bondo, or spot filler was used in the construction of the case which means there is nothing to wear down. The cartridge slot is also very snug, as demonstrated in my video by smacking it and not getting a single glitch!

This portable also features the usual AV out, headphone, charging, and player 2 jacks. However, I managed to make them all absolutely flush with the case to keep with the overall smooth appearance of the portable.

Project step-by-step guide on my website (see sig).

TV plug'n'play systems have great games on them, but the controls are pretty bad; the systems are also not portable as they need to plug into a television to play a game. With my system, a plug'n'play system is ripped apart and put inside a small game cartridge, which are then interchangeable (like my Multi-Platform system). The controls on my system are very easy to use and the d-pad works far far better than the clunky "joystick" on plug'n'play systems. This is a unique project as the cartridges are interchangeable via my universal cart slot.

I will also make a GBA add on for the system in due course - ran out of time.

System includes two Canon 911 Li-ion batteries, 2000mA each = 4000mA, enough to keep the system running before recharge for about 4.5 hours or so. The batteries simply pop out for recharging, so if I have a spare set of batteries then can be utilised. There is also a video and audio jack and an audio jack.

This was a very involving project, pleased to have finished it in time. Over the next weeks, I will make more plug'n'play cartridges for the system.

Weight including game cart and batteries - c. 700g without batteries and game cart c. 450g

It is made of the PS2 Slim
It has a 16 Meg Memory card
A full functioning keyboard and mouse(Not linux)
Video out for the TV
Crappy case-Card board-See why below
It also has a very nice battery giving it a total of 5 whole hours of gameplay(Thats using the screen with it)
As well as a 8.5 inch screen

I will post more pics and a video but I am seeing my sister off to college this week, and did not bring the PS2GO(Using my GCp)
The reason there is a lack if pics is because A. I thought I could take some after my sisters college and B. when I was taking the first set as you saw I stopped half way through thinking I would lose anyway
-Before anyone complains if I win(Not likely)I wont accept anything without more pictures
-Note:Not as a sympathy card but I spent a week in the hospital not allowing me to work on this.

DARTH 64

This of course is a N64 portable. I named it the Darth 64 because my kids say it resembled the Darth Vader helmet the have :)

I wanted a system that was bulletproof. I bought some from this site and the build quality was shaky to say the least. Hot glue just wasn't an option.

So I used a case that I could mold into what I wanted but could still be put back together with screws. All integrated plastic parts were ABS Cement melted and fused to the original case, then hard filler bumper epoxy was used then soft fill bumper epoxy for the finishing touches.

The N64 motherboard was attached using plastic stand-offs that were Abs cemented and epoxied in. Then the cart slot was attached to the motherboard with l-brackets and nuts/bolts.

So everything is rock solid. Shake it or drop it and nothing will come loose or rattle.

List of features:
Psone screen with original backlight.
Flush mounted headphone jack.
5000maH Li-Poly batteries with quick charger and protection circuit.
Gamecube style joystick and d-pad.
Rear shoulder buttons and twin z buttons.
Cart slot relocation.

All I have left to do is wet sand the case and polish it in 7 days after the paint is dry.

Some specs:

* Uses only 4XAA batteries at 2500mAh,

POWER GAMEBOY

It is a GBA SP in a Gameboy original (Brick) shell. It has

*relocated cart slot, moved to the original gameboy cart slot
*a slightly brighter than stock SP lighting panel
*stereo headphone jack
*standard SP charge port
*link port
*FM radio tuner
*Bluetooth sound transmitter (Allows for transmission of sound to bluetooth headphones and headsets)
*All buttons remapped to GB controls, using button membrane, not tact switches
*2000mah li-ion cell
*Pharos GPS-360 GPS reciever module with custom map support (Allows you to use the power gameboy as a GPS system)
*L and R triggers on back of case.
*Uses GB volume wheel for volume control
*IR universal TV remote, wired to the dpad and action buttons
*GBA accelerator, allows for slow mo, normal speed, fast, and hyper speed overclocking, cycles through speeds by pressing L, R, and select.
EDIT: OMG I forgot the best part!
*custom built 4 way digital motion sensor, just tilt the gameboy in the direction you want it to press the dpad! I have got to get a vid to show it off.

PICS!!!!
Title screen for pokemon ruby...lawlz, pokemon...
Image

The back of the case. The flashcart sticks out bcause it is larger than a standard cart, normal carts fit in PERFECTLY flush. The L and R buttons are slightly recessed into the case, they are those two white buttons.
Image

The side...uber sexy, check out the charge port and volume wheel!integrationImage

And, the grand finale... THE GPS!
Image
I followed this tutorial for GPS: http://www.msh-tools.com/GBA/gbagps.html
My GPS sensor is a later model set at 9600baud, more accurate by a small degree. I was having a LOT of trouble figuring this out. It can get a fix on location, but for some reason, the NMEA position data starts to garble. I am betting on the fact that the wire I used has high resistance, gonna fix that soon.

This thing took FOREVER to make. I basically got everything "working" but it still needs a few final touches (Circuit mounts, shorten the wires, fix NMEA, etc.

I think I have the distinction of being the first benheck member to ever build GPS, motion sensing, OR bluetooth audio transmission into his portable! Three firsts!
