just cuz it was on purpose doesn't mean it looks nice... there are many ways to paint and leave a texture without it looking so... messy.SonyPortableizer wrote:I thought the case was like that so it is not like the PSP(Finger prints are visible)
EDIT:
wait, what? that's true, but random... oh wait! from the bondo queen comment? yup, that's me! and there are not very many girls. i'm tryin my hardest to represent what... all 2 of us?eurddrue wrote:chevy, I didn't know you were a girl, I thought that was just your avatar because you liked it, How many other girls do we got on this forum?

I never said it looks nice, and I know about the other methods I just he preferred that method, I appreciate the circuitry over the caseSonyPortableizer wrote:

I agree...it looked like when the paint was drying it shrinked and gave shrinkwrap like wrinkles.....and the carts looks like construction paper boxes....if you wanted texture why not just take a regular sponge and just quickly tap the case after the last coat of paint? or something simillar to that effect.mothatrucka wrote:Man, I am sorry, but that paint job... ick. I know you think it's intentionally textured, but it looks like slopped on half-assed to me. There's quite literally hundreds of ways to get a decent looking texture, why did you go for something so amateur? Same with the carts. It all just looks thrown together. It just doesn't seem up to your usual quality at all.

Looks are so personal, a texture is a texture is a texture. It's like asking someone what their favourite colour is and then arguing over their preference (just as silly). I like this style and could have done whatever I chose to, I did this method out of choice and it IS nice. It doesn't matter if you prefer one ripple effect over another, I didn't make it for you so it doesn't matter. I made it for me and I love it.
Personally, I tried the shiny mirror black look and didn't like it on many levels so I decided to paint the case over this and have an oil-paint look.
Try to focus on the functionality and usablility of the system rather than "oh, if only you used a sponge over a brush" for X texture crap. It is an awesome unit and I am very proud of it. I have worked very hard on it for 4 weeks solid and spent a couple of hundred hours or so on it; so don't belittle the work please with such.

You're right. All a matter of opinion. Gotta admit, though, the whole thrown-together, slopped paint really takes away from the "professional, finished" aspect of it. If you like "I threw this together as fast as I could", more power to you.bacteria wrote: It does look very nice.

What do you plan to do about the paper already peeling on your NES cart?

The NES cart was done as quickly as I could today so isn't as polished as the others I made, had a deadline to meet; still spent most of the day on it though. Just needs a little extra glue on the corners and a coat of varnish to preserve it, that is all.
The paint isn't "slopped", don't be patronising. I did it in that style on purpose, so get over it!
I don't see your entry, BTW...

No, and you won't. I stated very clearly I wasn't entering, and unlike a great many people, my word is my law.bacteria wrote: I don't see your entry, BTW...
Out of the three projects I started after the official start, two could possibly be finished in time, but even if I did, I won't enter them. My choice and my right.
And I repeat myself...
Kudos to you for liking it. Again, like I've said so many times in the past, it's all about what you want. I'm just expressing that the amateur thing doesn't do it for me.If you like "I threw this together as fast as I could", more power to you.

you are all aware that you CAN have a smooth NON GLOSS finish right? satin or semi-gloss paints look FANTASTIC and flat isnt too bad either.

i am aware. i wasn't indicating that it has to be gloss. i just like the very slight texture look. the "orange peel" if you may.Triton wrote:you are all aware that you CAN have a smooth NON GLOSS finish right? satin or semi-gloss paints look FANTASTIC and flat isnt too bad either.

Well, current project is restoring about 30 DOA consoles and reselling them for profit. I'm desperately in need of the income, so fun projects are on hold.eurddrue wrote:yes but I am still waiting to see your awesome case that is completely brand new and cost you less than 25 cents...
It will be finished, and it will be shown here. I quite literally have no fear of someone stealing the idea, it just won't occur to you guys.
