hey, i have a spare gbc, and some av cables from a plug and play. i was wondering if there was a way to play the gbc on my tv (nobody mention the gb player or super gameboy, please
). it would be like an nes with smaller catridges if it is at all possible.
rest in peace, Ronnie James Dio! \m/

The only way you could do that is to have something read the vram, then decode it and output the result in realtime. Not something that you are going to be able to do. In fact, I don't think anyone here would know how to do that! Fine, I will not mention the gb player or the super gameboy. But I WILL mention the N64 gameboy transfer pack.

Excellent

except the super gameboy does not play gbc only carts. it'll play the games that were gb/gbc compatible, but not games only compatible with the gbc.bacteria wrote:totokan - yes, that works - only other way I know is the adapter cart for the SNES to take GBC carts.
sorry to say your best bet is to get either the n64 transfer pak, the gba player for the gcn, or the cable to hook your gba to your gcb to play them.
they call me the Queen of Bondo, though maybe i should be called the Queen of Epoxy Putty

ah! thanks for the insite! i've never used a transfer pak, so i was just goin on what palmertech said. so i guess that just leaves you with the gcn options!totokan wrote:the n64 transfer pak doesn't play gbc games, it just reads the savedata.

If you have Pokemon Stadium, you can use the transfer pack to play Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow. Must mean that the N64 could emulate the Gameboy Colour.lovablechevy wrote:ah! thanks for the insite! i've never used a transfer pak, so i was just goin on what palmertech said. so i guess that just leaves you with the gcn options!totokan wrote:the n64 transfer pak doesn't play gbc games, it just reads the savedata.

I was a bit misleading.
The n64 transfer pack was only able to read the SRAM data on the cart. And while pokemon stadium could play yellow, red, and blue, and stadium 2 also played gold, silver, and crystal, it did not use emulation. They actually rewrote the entire games just for n64, put them on the cart, and read the cart save file.
An interesting thing about this is that it means pokemon crystal was finished at the same time as gold and silver! So just held it back for more profit...

Are you sure? from what I read, both super game boys, including the japan only "clear blue" super gameboy II only play GBC/GB compatable BLACK CARTRIDGE Gameboy Color games, and only in regular gameboy mode.Bibin wrote:Actually, the Super GameBoy II (japan only) plays GBC games just fine - you can import it, and then shave off some plastic so it'll fit in a SNES.
Have you tested it with the CLEAR CARTRIDGE gbc only games, like Super Mario Bros. Deluxe?

That's weird, because all of the Wikipedia or other webpages about the SGB2 say that it only has clear plastic, new menus, and a LED added, and never mentions anything about playing GBC Clear Cartridges at all. I'm trying to fid a picture or a video right now, but i've been unable to find it.palmertech wrote:He is right. The supergameboy can only run gbc games that are compatible with the GBO, but it can use their gbc enhancements. The super gameboy II runs pokemon crystal, wgich is a clear, gbc only game.

Are you sure you aren't talking about to the n64 pak?
Do you know if the Super Game Boy II plays ANY games in color, or different in any way than the regular super game boy does? Do you own one? If so, could you please make a youtube video demonstrating the differences? I found one for sale online, but i'm not sure if I want to add it to my collection unless it offers significant differences over the regular SGB, but I can't find any conclusive or definitive information on the internet.
