Screens You CAN and CANNOT Use

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Plus you need the whole GBA motherboard, not just the screen. It'll be cheaper/smaller/better to get something like a hipgear screen.

i've got a 12 inch laptop display and im planning to make a portable, that isnt a real portabel at all xD

I thought I can use this decoder from ebay: http://cgi.ebay.de/Geniatech-Pro-Video- ... dZViewItem

My question is, if the laptop monitor has inputs similar to DVI which the box can decode or if it is a extraordinary connection type...

No, that won't work. If that laptop screen is fairly recent, it will probably use some form of LVDS, or if it's older, probably a proprietary standard. In either case it is going to cost way too much money when you could just buy a regular VGA screen (laptop LCDs themselves are all digital, VGA is analog RGB.)

Will the weird headphone glasses thing from http://myvu.com/# work? From what I can tell it's a digital signal, but then again, I'm not that smart. Just thought it would make portabulizing(?) a bit easier.

Some of them should work. This is what the website says about their universal models:
Myvu Standard / Universal

The Myvu Standard/Universal versions are compatible with most portable video devices with a video out setting. Each includes easy- to-use cables that allow you to connect to mp4 players, DVD players, camcorders or gaming systems with video out capabilities.

So, then, what WOULD a portable DVD player require in order to use the screen?

It needs to accept an external video signal input. The most common is composite video.

I think it's important to note that the ONESTATION screen will also not work, I found this thread with some solid information that seems to have gone unrecognized.

I'm not sure if it's been said, but put the Intec Gamecube screen on the list... seems to be a lot of confusion with it.

i find this screen at amazon.uk

it's a PAL screen with a car adaptator to power screen and PS2 slim

the power adptator is very cheap in his design but i opened the screen and it look exactly the same as a PSone screen

i checked references on the componants : exactely like a psone screen

i think it should be a good idea for getting PAL screens brand news, witch is very difficult to find here in europe
