Free DVD burning software?

Post by Tibia » Thu May 08, 2008 4:43 pm

I have some DVDs that have been damaged. They won't play in most of my devices, but my computer with a DVD burner plays them just fine. I'd really like to be able to make copies of these, rather than shelling out for them again.

I'm looking for a free program to burn copies. I don't understand that whole "rip to ISO" nonsense, I'd like to be able to just hit a button, read the DVD, and insert a blank one, just like burning CDs.

If it matters, I'm running XP SP2 with a 2.7Ghz Celeron, 512 mb RAM, Optiarc DVD-RW, and about 17GB free space between the two hard drives.

Get dvd Shrink and download a demo of Nero (might be a bit slow). You could also burn it with CdburnerXp (free).

Use Shrink to rip the movie (kinda like you would songs from a cd.) After that it should recognize Nero and allow you to burn the files using that. Not sure if it will recognize cdburnerxp.

DeepBurner is a good burning utility for writing ISOs and erasing rewritable discs. (For one-off data discs, the burner built into Windows is fine.)

If you are going to us single layer DVDs, use project_failure's method. I use a lot.

If you are going to splurge for dual layer, bic's will work.

I you have any more questions just ask.

Download a free trial of AnyDVD here: http://www.slysoft.com/en/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (removes copy protection) use imgburn (free) to make a 1:1 copy http://www.imgburn.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or if you want to cram it all onto a 4.7gb dvd use dvd shrink (free) or nero recode (trialware)

Well since this thread is up here again anyway, DVD Flick is a free tool that takes video files and makes video DVDs out of them, complete with menus and chapter selection. I think it's based around ffmpeg or mplayer, so it takes just about anything you throw at it.

I use DVD Decrypter to rip the DVD's;

Imgshrink to shrink files to fit on a single layer disc,
then burn with imgburn.

Holy copulate, this is an old topic of mine. That desktop died a few months after posting that. Now, I've got a PC hooked up to my TV. lol I've got a large external HDD with my DVDs ripped to it from DVD Decrypter. Works fantastic.
