As promised, here are a few pictures of the guts! It's a mess.
Rear shot of the system select switches, power/reset buttons and extra 2600 buttons.
Oh the humanity.
The transformer, 7805 and heatsink ripped from a busted iMac we found on the street.
Kinda a crappy close-up of the pow/res buttons from the back.
System select switches from the back.
Threaded support cubes! One in each corner, holds things together.
NES/Atari ports, complete with mystery expansion port!

HIDDEN FERRET POWER!

That's really cool that you put all four cart slots on a separate board. Makes it look a lot cleaner then Yoshi's Y-Boxx. Kodos on making a really nice system mod, and the smoke tint plexi-glass is really nice touch.

Is that anything like a weighted companion cube?vomitsaw wrote:Threaded support cubes!
I saw the article on Engadget and watched the video, too. Great stuff! That Contra line cracked me up.
Considering you relocated FOUR cartridge slots for ONE project, no wonder it took six years. Well done, and the power and system select buttons are top notch!

Heh, yeah, I did that for him. And believe it or not, James and I are collaborating on one of the upcoming episodes. I don't wanna give anything away though. It should be pretty scathing and contain more feces.Dbstew wrote:Awesome!!
Now that Jeckyll & Hyde cart thing in your video was totally intentional.. You've been watching to much Angry Video Game Nerd, haven't you?
Yup! I fell in love with the stuff once I learned how to heat/shape and adhere the stuff. So many colors and shapes, man... this stuff is like Legos for adults.Kyo wrote: that's plexiglas? Really? Wow.
Yeah, they work pretty well. Gotta be careful when threading them though, I've cracked a few. ...And thank Christ that third word is obstructed. XDTibia wrote: Man, that is still just one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Those threaded support cubes are a wonderful idea. I like the hidden message behind the NES ports.
Heh, thanks! For the record, most of the work took place over the last... 8 months or so. I'd work on it for a little while, take several months off, back on and off again, so on and so forth. Redesigned almost every aspect of it several times along the way too.Life of Brian wrote: Is that anything like a weighted companion cube?

Hard to say exactly. Assuming you don't screw up and create any re-work for yourself, and already have access to the necessary tools, probably just a couple hundred for systems/parts/materials/adhesives/etc. Expect to spend more though. Trust me.GoldenfrankO wrote: How much did it cost to make?

Is that genuine hardware, or is some "on a chip?"
EDIT: Apparently, before I can press "Submit," he posted the gut pics while I was typing. Good work there!
