Non-smoker. This is a community of nerds, none of us smoke, duh. It fogs up our horn-rimmed glasses and aggravates our severe acne. :D

I'm sure many of us have tried it, I mean, the majority of us have/will go through an experimental phase of our lives. But honestly, there is nothing special about it. It doesn't make you feel any different (except maybe a lack of oxygen) and serves no purpose other than to quench your addiction to starting them in the first place. Unless, of course, you enjoy the clouds of smoke coming from your lungs. But then you can just move to Canada, where that happens when you go outside 8/12 months anyhow.

Enjoy your cancer.

Smoke is no good and costs too much money on top of that.

I know of all of the bad effects of it, but I'd prefer to smoke over drink. I'll probably smoke the occasional cigar when I'm older.

I'd prefer to smoke over drink.
Or you could just do neither. Lets not forget that.

I see smoking as a sign of weakness- especially in younger people. It serves absolutely no purpose. All smoking will do is drain your wallet and lead to illness.

Sign of weakness? You mean sign of KICKASS!!

I know it's bad, but to be honest I could honestly care less. I won't do it all of the time mind you just on occasion.

My guess is that having flames on your cigarette isn't a good thing...

I have lost 3 grandparents to smoking, you see what it does to a person after they've smoked their whole life, and you're not too eager to start puffing.

Non-smoker, always have been. At secondary school (what you Americans call High School I think) '79-'83, I was one of the few in the school who didn't smoke, I didn't give in to peer pressure to.

i am of the opinion that smoking is a terrible habit and anyone who does it is showing a distinct lack of good judgement in doing so. it offers zero benfits, is a detriment to your health and those around you, is outrageously expensive and, IT WILL EVENTUALLY KILL YOU. and yet thousands of people persist in doing it :?

Not trying to flame but I think that smoking is for people with too much time on there hands. Drinking is for those that can't have fun when sober. Drugs are for those who need to escape.

Me... I am high on life.

Non smoker. Used to but stopped.

(ahem) geeks, not nerds here!!

Working in a Police Custody Suite, I can say this with accuracy and research; I see lots of heroin addicts, methadone users (eg heroin druggies), people who think cocaine or cannabis is fine (it really isn't, after a while the walls seem to talk back to them; literally, amongst other side effects - eg "drug induced psychosis").

You know what? - smoking tobacco is FAR harder to get off than heroin. Fact. I have had to deal with many druggies, I have asked heroin users and doctors who see these people and this is what they say. Methadone is worse to get off than both.

If you smoke, forget the excuses, you can't get off it unless you have a really good reason to do so and strong willed. You are a druggie and need your fix!

If there was petition for banning smoking entirely, i'd sign it.
