I need a project. And it needs to occupy a significant amount of my time without occupying a significant amount of money.

What should I do? Sitting around playing games all day is fun and all, but I have to urge to build something. It could be anything (Not a portable, don't have the money for one).

Do some pointless mods for any game system, mod them with a ton of LEDS. (LEDS are really cheap if you buy in bulk)

Do some paint jobs to some games systems.

Do case mods for game systems, like putting a NES in a Cigar box, or make a combo system, or something like that.

It doesn't have to be electronic. It could be anything.

Anyone see the PopSci motorized skateboard? I had that idea like, 5 years ago. No fair!

If you're near a lake or pond or something, make a boat.

Refrigerator box + turtle wax + motor = fun

I lol'd

Why not try to build one of those "time fountain" things? They're pretty neat looking and it doesn't look like it would cost a whole lot to build. I think there's a how-to on instructables, but I could be wrong... check google.

The sad thing is I briefly considered the life-sized mario idea...

I'm not near a lake, I don't want a laser microphone, and I'm hoping for something I can make for >$30, unless it's cool and useful.

Any more ideas?

Do you mean <$30 (less than $30)?

Ermm...yeah. :P

Something that has a use after construction would be cool. Maybe something big. Something machine-ey. Something shootey? Maybe I'll make a "Build your own firearm for <$30" Instructable :P

I dunno, I just want to build something cool.

A firearm you say? You should totally make a potato gun. A trip to a hardware store and you can easily build a nice gun for sub $30.

*facepalm* how close do things have to be to be considered "near". we are less than a lakewidth from one of the biggest lakes in North America.

But yeah. heres some.

- finish my guitar
- refurb the northwood computer. new OS, repartition, upgrade? Go on tigerdirect.ca and make us a better computer for under $400, using what you have. The parents have offered to pay a couple times, its time to take them up on that.
- fix the guitar amp
