game gear screen

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Hip screen pads are under $30 and work really nice.

The screens cost about $37CAD, and are quite nice, especially compared to the Game Gear. The reason for this is that the Game Gear uses a passive matrix lcd (if you have no idea what I am talking about, don't worry. It's not important, just this next part) and it makes it very blurry when things are moving, which is not good for gaming. The Hip Gear, on the other hand, uses an Active Matrix screen and is great for moving things. Also, the clarity on the Hip Screen is awesome according to what gannon has told me on AIM.

oh yeah, forgot about that one :)

Try looking around the toy stores and computer stores in your area. They come on a controller, but you can remove that.

Yeah! A fellow canadian! Anyway, look at futureshop, bestbuy, toysrus, maybe even the dreaded walmart. Try going to the nearest futureshop, they should have some.

for anyone whos still reading this... i just got a compact psone (the one re-released in 2000) off eBay as opposed to making my old 1995 model into a portable which my dad proabably wudnt let me do anyways so i think im gunna find a PSOne LCD screen... seems safer... and im pretty sure itd be much easier am i right? 1 thing i wanna know... those psone screens.... did they run off batterires or did u have to plug it in (which doesnt seem very logical)

A Hip Gear screen will work just as well, since they use the same signal most everything else uses and would be about as easy. As for a PSOne screen being plugged in or battery powered, it was made to be plugged in, through the wall or car, but there was a 3rd party battery attachment made.

Go to ebay there are a lot of canadian people selling them for $9 but it cost like $15 to ship to USA so I didn't get one but since you live in Canada it will probably work well. Also the Game Gear screen would be difficult to use, and no one has done it before using the TV tuner.

i found out u only need the tv tuner if u wanna hook an nes up to the game gear screen or u need a chroma decoder, but im not doing nes... it shudt be too hard its just an LCD... it shud be easier because its already in a portable so ill know where the a/v goes... i could be wrong... and i probably am

What makes the GG screen unusable or rather diffacalt to use it that the signal going to the screen is digital not analoge, so thats why you need the tv tuner to change the analog signal into a usable digital one.
