Apple with a bug free OS? PuhLEEEEASE, buddy.

Every, and I mean, EVERY, OS, crashes, has bugs, something happens, broken things, etc.

It's worse to crash on Mac OSX because they ask you to shut down the whole freaking system. MS, well, they "try" to tell you to close the program, but crap usually freezes so you end up having to restart. So they aren't as blunt, but you basically have to restart after a crash. Most of the time. Anyway.

And Linux? Oh LAWDY, don't get me started on that. Go ahead and not have your graphics acceleration, but if you even want to try, have fun. If one package goes wrong you gotta deal with the White Screen of Death (mostly) and use the terminal to take everything back to an older kernel or something (there are other methods) to fixing whatever you did. And that's only the start. Then you have to load modules and configure the boot script...

Unless, of course, you're on UBUNTU. Ugh. That name disgusts me. Computers shouldn't be user friendly.

So yea, Vista sucks, as well as all things MS, and Apple, and Linux, and anything stemming off the beginning - *Nix. Computers aren't perfection yet, and that's a long way away until we are even CLOSE.

Sorry. Had to vent. Some posts were just... nerve wrecking.

*facepalm*

No, I'm not a MS fanboy. If anything I hump FreeBSD until it bleeds. I don't "love" or "hate" any OS (which conflicts to what I just said about FreeBSD... Oh well), and you being on the Internet proves my theory on how computers SHOULDN'T be user friendly.

Your little force quit technique works on apps, yes. But when you are actually trying to, I dunno, DO SOMETHING USEFUL, this happens:

Image

All through the summer, I had to deal with these errors when it came to video editing, writing a document, posting around the Internet... Basically, any computers main feature that you'd see on any given OS.

If you have never encountered this error, you aren't really using your Mac much. Now I have to go compile packages and have another pain in my ass.

I am curious as what you consider "the beginning - *Nix", could you specify?

PS: not being sarcastic, just curious as I'm constantly swapping out OS's just to try something new.

Well he already displayed a marked dislike for GNU/Linux, so I was left to assume he either favored a BSD variant or another non-certified system, or a system that adhered to a a present or past UNIX(R) System specification.

I mean every single OS since the beginning.

Like, the beginning.

I'm not making much sense.

For the 10 minutes I've used a computer with vista, I am so glad I am still running XP on my setup.

Problems have been stated already, so I'm just agreeing with those who have already spoken.

I dont like Vista one bit, but what bugs me more is that it is impossible to buy any new sort of computer or laptop without it.

I just recently got a laptop, which came with vista and its been nothing but trouble. not in a particularly serious way, its just little things. For a start im not a simpleton and i can operate that basic functions of a computer without help.

I propose a new rule in all microsoft programming houses:

DONT FIX THINGS THAT ARENT BROKEN

everythings been moved and around. After 12 years since '95 i finially learnt where most things are, and they've gone and moved it all again. And theres not "switch to classic" so im at a loss. Im gonna flatten the whole system and start again, which annoys me cos i'll have to go throug hthe whole installing process and all the driver trouble associated with that because Microsoft want to move forward faster than nessacarcy. I mean only this year has most of my college computers finially got round to XP.

All modern OSs self monitor I know, but the OS should not have the power to lock down functions. That is crap. I say screw Vista.
They started all that with XP and WGA.

Every once and a while workstations at my company that have been authenticated and activated for years will suddenly come up with those lovely WGA bubbles of fail.

Personally, I've been using Linux for a few years and find it heavenly. I use my XP Pro partition very rarely for doing my taxes, updating my iPod firmware, and the occasional round of Counter-Strike. Most of the rest of my gaming has moved to consoles.

I don't know what I was thinking but 2 days ago I upgraded to Vista again. I guess it was because I got a new graphics card and have 3GB of Ram, but who knows.

I got rid of Vista in under 2 hours. Vista Sucks, I should just destroy the evil Install DVD and be done with it.

Then I decided to Install TinyXP Platinum Edition 2. So far it's awesome. I only use 300MB of my Ram when I'm: In Windows, In Pidgin, In Firefox, In WindowBlinds, Stardock, and In WinFlip. Not only does my PC use like no ram at all, but it looks like Vista, but better!

What do you guys think? Oh, and does anyone know where I can find a program to skin the default Icons of Windows XP like Recycle Bin and My Computer, etc?

Overall no major complaints, wouldn't go back to XP (screen refresh and all that seems primitive now)

Problems that I hope they fix in allegedly coming soon SP1:

CD burning is wanky, none of my 3rd party software works (or works well) and it always wants to do a "Live" filesystem unless you specify otherwise.

Copying files is weird, progress bar is quite inaccurate

Boots slower on my still-pretty-awesome PC than most XP machines I come across, including my parent's 2001-era pile.
