CECT P168 - iPhone Clone

Post by vb_master » Thu Dec 13, 2007 8:16 pm

I just ordered a Chinese iPhone Clone from eBay - the CECT P168. The phone costed me under $180. I should be getting it the beginning of next week, hopefully. The phone is a tri-band model, supporting 900/1800/1900 MHz GSM and is unlocked.

I currently have AT&T/Cingular service, and according to what people have said, the phone should work fine on it, except for a few features that I don't use.

When I get the phone, I'll keep you guys updated if it works or not, plus some pics of it.

Is it multi-touch interface like the iPhone? If so, sweet! If not, still sweet! It looks like a decent phone for the price.

yeah this is multi touch. i looked into it a while back, but there are MUCH better clones out there including a newer version in the cect line that look sleeker. there is also this m6 or possibly renamed the m8 (meizu keeps changing name) that is potentially BETTER than the iphone, but the release date is constantly being pushed back. 8)
I will always put 8) at the end of my posts

No, the M6 is the current version that's out now, Meizu having just released the M6 SL ("SL"im) in addition to the SP (generation 2). They were going to have the M6 SE, but that has now turned into the M7, which is the M8 without a phone. Kinda useless to us outside China, though, as all the devices shipped and sold outside the Red Death will actually have their phone capabilities completely disabled. The M8 looked favorable at first, but not only is it being marketed to a more Asian demograph, (proprietary Chinese IM client, interfacing with Chinese devices only, etc.) they've simply taken things too far. With the M6, and hell, even with the M3, though they look very Apple-esque and the GUI is fairly similar, they are different enough to call themselves something else, and with specific new features and increased customization, some would even say something better. The M8 completely changes all that, though. The design changes every time Apple does something new; at the iPhone announcement, launch, and it has been altered yet again to look more like the touch, and on top of all this, the features are sorely lacking. Sure, it runs a Windows CE 6 core, so third-party apps could be a distinct possibility, but the hardware itself is simply poor. The screen is smaller than the iPhone and at a lower resolution, it's thicker, there's no Wi-Fi as of yet, and as you mentioned before, they have absolutely no clue when they're going to release the damn thing. Today, they JUST made the first physical mock-up of the thing, and it's just a thicker iPod Touch with an "M" where the home button used to be. Just look at it and you'll see what I mean. By the time Meizu releases this thing, the cost of importing it would be about equal to buying one of Apple's latest devices. Just some (okay, a lot of) food for thought.

In the same line (CECT) is an updated GSM version of a 1980s "brick" style phone called the "Motelona 158x". The nifty part is that ll that leftover space is used for a 4800MaH battery, so its rated a 8 hours talk and 2 weeks stand by time.

They also make a phone dubbed "AK-47", with an even larger battery + touch screen and a built in walkie talkie, sadly for us in the US it's only dual band so no service here.

I got the clone today.

I got the new version with the 850 MHz band and the "flow touch" feature, seen above. Phone is working great with no extra setup needed from me!

Some things are confusing about it, but I got my 2 GB MicroSD and it plays Mp3's very well. It even supports bluetooth, etc.

Very nice phone, get one!

Could you post a video or something of the operating GUI? I remember the old one being SUPER ugly and really dry, did they change it up at all in this new version?

Doesn't have Java that is accessible to user, but it comes with some Mona Lisa puzzle game.

Wow, not even a built-in NES emulator? That's surprising, most of them at least have that!

Meh, I'll stick with my Nokia 2600 for three reasons:

1. I already have a PPC, so comparable features in a phone is redundant. If the interface is that important, there's a WM GUI that clones the iPhone which is more than likely comparable to the iClone's GUI. (Plus I know it will run third party software. ;))

2. TracFone sent it for free because my old phone was analog and won't work after February.

3. It has an awesome model number. 8)
