Best Way to DESTROY an iPod

Post by CronoTriggerfan » Sat Dec 15, 2007 6:36 pm

All Apple/Microsoft arguments aside, I hate Apple, for more than one reason. Specifically iPods. Well, Steve Jobs and Al Gore are up there, too, but that's a different story. Anyways, I was, in all honesty, quite disappointed with myself for getting a Touch. It follows the same vain as all other iPods (overpriced and underpowered), but Jailbreak makes it an incredible device. So anyways, to me, buying it is actually sachreligious; I've preached against the damn things for years, and the fact that I'm now purchasing one is kinda painful.

Enter this 1st gen iPod Nano. :D

Seeing as my family and friends are giving me a hard time for buying one, (they're all iPod lovers  ) I've decided that I can justify the purchase if I take the life of another Apple product, so it's like I never bought the Touch in the first place. Right? RIGHT?

Anyways, I'm just trying to think about the best way to destroy this thing. It'll be done on Christmas Eve, and I'll put the vid up on YouTube, probably. At first, I was just gonna put it between two wood blocks, hit it with a hammer a lot, and douse it with lighter fluid to make asplode. But I think I can do better. Or should I say, we can do better.

My question to you all is, if you had one iPod (if you're an Apple fanboy, just replace iPod with Zune) to completely annihilate, how would you go about it? Overcharge the lithium battery? Torch it? Throw it? Smash it? Give it to Spike, the creepy, rabies-infested pitbull that wanders everyone's local neighborhood? Thanks for the help, and I'll put the top few suggestions in poll form, and we can all vote on how the destruction takes place. Thanks!

I'd say standing it upright and then giving it a good whack with a sledgehammer could be fun.

But if you're going to destroy it anyway, why not send it to me? I know someone who could use it (not me).

EDIT: @Sir-Games-A-Lot: I have a Mini. 8)

Personally, I'd duct tape it to a big piece of white paper, take it down to the range and feed a box of cheap .22 lr one by one, just make sure to observe proper safety precautions.

As an aside, the only good iPod is the Mini, mostly because you can open them up with out damaging them, and replace the battery and memory to create a "halfbreed", it also has a reasonably developed rockbox port so you could technically make it "3/4 breed" as well 8).

Here are a few choices:
A- Stick it in a old blender
B- Drive a car over it
C- Run over it with a Lawnmower
D- Strap it to a Fireworks Rocket (make it go boom)

And my favorite choice:
E- Give it to me :D

blending is cool, then take the scraps and light em on fire, while overcharing the battery.

ps: look up iphone in blender

Me thinks that those are very similar (and good), but lawnmower is more original. Only problem is getting a video of it...

Shorting/overcharging the battery seems to be the best idea. Puncturing lithium batteries gives similar results, so you could chop it in half with an ax.

Or, you could give it to me (you could take the guts out and send them to me, you just keep the battery and case, then you can still make the battery a'splode). Don't worry, I don't like ipods either, I just want a small mp3 player. Might even be able to pay you for your troubles...

Send it to me and I'll give it to my cousin. It will take its own life within a week. :P

But seriously, give it a chance. Take it apart and make a new case that will take AAs. You'll get a long battery life off 2500mAh rechargeables. Killing a product because you bought one doesn't "make it up", you silly <a href="http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/3 ... pocrite</a> you. :P (And do you have legitimate reasons for disliking the products or is it just a case of "I hate it because it's popular"-itis? ;))

Here's what I think you should do:

If it's completely dead, go to town.

If it has some life left in it, refurbish it and sell. Then use the money to buy some truly dead ones to smash, making a little profit on the side.

Okay, I really didn't want it to come down to this, but I knew it would. Not a fan of iPods; never have been, never will be. Why? They're overpriced and underpowered. I don't hate them because they're the eqivalent of "The Man" or something, or even because they're popular. I like plenty of mainstream stuff that everyone owns. The iPod line holds a special place in my heart, however, simply because there are, and always have been, devices all over the place that are $50-$100 cheaper than it, have more features, higher build quality, and aren't restricted by crappy proprietary software and accessories. The Touch, though it's still super expensive for what it does out of the box, is a rare exception due to all of the great apps you can shove on it after a bit of fiddling. There are other reasons, too, but they're very

Besides, I got this thing for $20. And if you're wondering, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, either. In fact, it's nearly brand new. Oh, and for everyone who's asking if I'll give it to them, NO. I don't do freebies, you have to earn it. I do, however, have an Omega V88 PMP that I got earlier this year that shipped without firmware on it. I was supposed to return it for a new one, but I never did. Evidently, you can get firmware loaded onto it, but I never felt like dealing with it. So for all of you complainers, we can do a contest or something and the winner can have that. So in layman's terms, don't ask if you can have it, or try to persuade me not to blast this thing into a bajillion pieces. I'm going to either way.

For those of you who have given suggestions, keep it up! I like what I hear!

Stick it on a large clamp. Then you can whack the crap out of it with a hammer. But start by hitting it with a meat cleaver. My brother did that after a broken cooking timer/thermometer wouldn't stop beeping. It was funny when we told him he could've taken out the batteries. But if you're going to do multiple things, start with the least harmless and work your way up.

I don't want to make an "I'm leaving" thread, but I've sort of lost interest in this board. So if you notice that I'm gone, that's why.

Get two copper wires, and put them in to the hot and neutral slots on a receptacle and make a direct short thru the aluminum backing.

Seriously, give it away to a needy person. Why waste a perfectly good iPoop?

I mean, it is crap, but somebody would enjoy having it.(not me though)

Lmao, this reminds me of "iPod in a microwave".

http://www.uberreview.com/2007/09/high- ... graphy.htm

Like that, but with an iPod. Rent a high speed video camera, a high-quality camera with the option for longer exposure, etc. It would be awesome!

...or...

You could send it to me and we could all enjoy the effects of a Ford Coil on an iPod LCD. (Joking). You could do that though, it would look cool.

The only problem I see with the lawnmower is that the blade sits higher than the chassis, and is too high...

Try a Ditch Witch.
