Performa 575: no video?

I recently picked up a Apple Performa 575 from my school's dump heap. When I turn it on, it plays the genreic Mac "on noise", plays a short series of musical tones, starts the hard drive and then just sits there with monitor turned off (not black, off). I went for the obvious and replaced the old 4.5v clock battery with three AAs, but to no avail.

It won't turn off when I hit the power key, and the num and caps lock keys don't work their keyboard lights.

Any recommendations as to possible problems or fixes?

Does it make a sound like <a href="http://img146.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... f">this</a> ? Generally that sound means something's messed up to the point that the machine can't boot.

One of the memory modules may be bad. Pull out all of the RAM (making sure you note which one goes in which slot). Don't worry, it has 4 MB soldered to the motherboard. Try booting again. Also, try running it without the PRAM battery. Sounds crazy, but that's what fixed my SE/30.

Make sure the memory is in matching pairs, since the 575 more than likely needs SIMMs, which have to be paired. The problem could be a botched memory upgrade.

Yep, that's the sound.

Unfortunately, no combination of PRAM battery, its single stick of RAM and two sticks of VRAM I have tried thus far have gotten it to boot. I've also removed the hard disk drive, to no avail.
