Post by Ragnarok »

Well, here's another guy who wants to make one of these, but, I need help from you guys, since I don't understand anything about LCD screens or Power supplys, and I need help in that department, soddering isn't a problem for me so don't worry :P , as long as I know know what to sodder and where I can do it, well here are the photos of what I have:

I hope these work, I don't really wanna spend any money that I don't need to spend, and the laptop battery would be a plus since it's rechargable, this is of course only the economic way to go xD, if none of these work I'll need help on getting what I need, hope I can count on you guys.

Hey, you're that dude from AcidMods! I'm the guy that gave you the link here. :D

Anyways, I failed to mention to you on AcidMods that the laptop screen won't work. If you got it to work, it would likely cost you several hundred dollars for the board to control the LCD. The power regulator and battery are also questionable, you'd likely be on your own trying to figure that out, unless someone else has one exactly like it.
For a screen, expect to pay about $100-150, depending on the size and quality. The regulator should be pretty cheap, and a comparably battery will also cost at least $100, but be far easier to use, and it'd be new.

Yeah I wasn't expecting it to work, anyways, I'll see if the power supply works at least, if that worked it would be a plus already, I'll have to look around if I can find an LCD screen that works, I know VGA screens work on the DreamCast, I found a TUT on the web about it, it's not that hard, it even has a switch to change from VGA to the TVs RGB, I'll try to find one the same size so I can use this ones case, since I can't find anyone around here to make a custom case for me, if I can't make the PSU work, I'll have to find another too, I'd really rather have one with a battery but I don't know how to find these :S , every mod I see uses AA or AAA batteries but that isn't what I really would like to go for.

I have an old NEC LT that can't boot up too, but the screen is flawless, if I'm to adapt the screen to use on a dreamcast, How would you go about doing that? Is there a converter from that weird thin plug to the regular vga plug?

Yes, do a search for "LCD controller" on eBay. There's a company in China that sells them and will make the correct cable to go from your LCD to the controller (included in price). Remember to keep shipping in mind, as these will have high shipping since they come from China. They have VGA-only controllers for around $50 shipped, which would work fine for a Dreamcast (most other consoles you want composite, 480i RGB or component video)

Also, you probably shouldn't bump up such an old thread on these forums, unless you wanted a status update on this particular project.
