Destroying an N64.

Post by Kurt_ » Thu Oct 04, 2007 1:59 pm

I want to destroy an N64. (ie. Make a game not work). A "controlled" demolition, so that it can have full functionality afterwards. I was hoping there was 2 pins on the power adapter I could short that would blow a fuse. Is there?

You could just take out or tamper with the jumper pak, right?

Desolder the power connector within the power supply. Rewire it up (straight off the PCB, that is) so that it shorts it self out when plugged in, i.e., Lead the power wires back to some of the ICs and such.

Out of curiosity, why are you wanting to destroy an N64, and yet not at the same time?

It needs to be done in less than 2 minutes without any special tools.

It is not to rip off a friend, it's more a revenge plot.

Jumper pack, then, or unplug it from the wall.

The thing is, this guy abused his n64 so much. A 5 year old would treat it better. I actually had to forcibly clean it for him. The jumper pack top lid is completely gone.

Pull the jumper pack up just enough that it won't work, most people wouldn't think to check the jumper pack if it isn't working.

That MAY work. I was thinking of jamming something in one of the card-edge connectors to stop the connection.

You could always just open it up and add an additional switch to the power source, probably on the inside. If you're going for that whole reversible thing.

Pre-modify a jumper pack that won't work, nor cause damage. Switch them when you get the chance.

Or switch a dead N64 for his for a few minutes.

I think placing a piece of paper or plastic wrap in between the jumper pack and the N64 would be pretty sneaky and nondestructive.

Proves how well the N64 is designed if it can take lots of abuse, it probably helps that it uses cartridges rather than cd's. After all, carts get treated really badly, even in shops, yet they work well anyway.

I don't see what you want to achieve with what you suggest, apart from showing your "friend" how clever you are by making it work again quickly, the N64 won't be treated better by him afterwards. Some people are naturally slobs and have little regard for property, even their own - you can't change that!

for a permanent damage you could modify a cartridge to short it out, I suppose (a cheap one) but I really think you should think about what you're doing. It's just a console. It's not like he's harming anybody but himself.
