Battery Question

Post by Kurt_ » Fri Jun 29, 2007 2:50 pm

I want to replace the power jack on my sony dsc p73 camera (the problem was simply several pairs of batteries too worn out to use with the camera, although they read 2.7V with no load), because sony wants my money by making it weird shaped with 3 connections, excluding ground. Power jacks from them are $100 CAD.

So I got a steady 2.5ish volts going (later 4.0 after I read the jack supplies 4.5V), hooked it up to the 3 contacts in every which way possible (I knew one was voltage in and one was ground. I connected the other two to ground in every way possible, to no avail.

The I hooked up 2.5V (and, just now, 2.9V, and 2.9V with a 500 ohm resistor in series) to the battery contacts. The regulators (linear to switching) output maximum 1 and 1.5A, and the fuses are rated at 2.5A. It refuses to turn on.

It has 4 fuses. 3 are simple fuses, and one is an IC.

Suggestions as to how to proceed? Why does it not turn on when the correct voltage is applied? As it doesn't turn on, I can't check the current.

I think theres a board in the battery and that needs to be hooked up. Like for the PSP, with the 3 AAA battery pack, you have to remove the cell from an existing pack and replace it with the AAAs.

If I understand what you are doing correctly, you may have fried it. :? Basically anytime I have to try every different wire combination and it still does not work, that means that the first wiring config I tried fried the electronic.
nope... can't think of anything I could possibly want to put in my Signature Block...

It's not fried. Both the power source and camera work perfectly.

The Camera has a battery holder. I am wiring 2.9V DIRECTLY to the contacts of the 2 AA battery holder, and the camera refuses to turn on.

However, with 2 AA batteries hooked up to the same spot, it works fine.
