Audio static

Post by csurban » Sun Jun 24, 2007 11:08 am

This happened on my old portable but am trying to fix it for my new one.

When playing a game I get static from both speakers. It is faint but noticeable.

Its not the screen, and I have the N64 running off of its own power supply, not the original though. The screen quality is perfect due to the cap and inductor on the 3.3v line. So it seems that the interference is introduced somewhere in the N64. Is there anything, like a electrical component, I can put anywhere which would stop the static? like an inductor or cap somewhere?
nope... can't think of anything I could possibly want to put in my Signature Block...

is the volume all the way up?

If so this is natural distortion and cannot be avoided, best bet is to run a small preamp for each speaker and all, that may set you back another 25-30 dollars though...
I refuse to dignify myself with an intelligent and witty signature

The distortion is there even when hooked up to a TV. And it might be worth mentioning that the distortion is predictable. Meaning that when I switch on the N64, the static goes through a pre-determined series of different beeps and humming before settling down to a steady noise.
Might this mean that some chip on the mobo is leaking out interference which is going into the audio line? Is there any electronic component I can put on the audio line which might prevent this? or lessen it to some extent?

to me it sounds like you have something shorted, trace the place were you got sound from, and check if anything is shorting there.
