i just got a snes today from a friend with a few games and like 3 controllers. i tested it out with kerbie (very fun game) and it worked just fine. the case is beat up tho and a couple small pieces of plastic are missing and the case is terribly yellow. is there any solution to take away this yellowing effect? like some sort of bath for it. (of course with all the electrical stuff out)

This really should be in the Super Nintendo forum.

EDIT: Done! As for an answer to your question, I recommend you read this site. It gives a complete scientific breakdown of why the SNES yellows with time, and it really is very interesting! What it basically breaks down to is that the flame-retardant chemicals put in the SNES plastic to meet safety requirements will begin to color over time through exposure to oxygen and other components of the air. The only real way to fix this is to paint it and spray that layer of paint with UV protector. If the discoloration is very light, you may be able to use bleach/Magic Eraser to get rid of the discoloration, but most likely not. For the heavy stuff, if you don't wish to paint your console, just take some acetone and rub it off. Or sandpaper, perhaps. Beware, though, what acetone does is actually melt the plastic off, so don't say I didn't warn you!

agreed, black looks great, but its too late. the case is in 1,549 peices in the trash. I found a new way to open one of those pesty things in the process. It was just too brittle to withstand any impact at all. I used one of those poker tools and just hit the thing really hard. does anybody just replace the old brittle case with a new vacuumed formed/cnc one?
