Get him a large flat cage with no tubing. It may look fun, but soon you will realise you can't touch them when they hide half way through a tube. Keep in mind they only last about 4 years.. love them while you can. I got a new one a few days ago. Also! DO NOT PET HAMSTERS DURING THE NIGHT!!! They will bite you bad.

I hate to jack, but is there a 'Show pics of your pets' thread? If not, there should be!

Rat? You DO know they can't control their bladders. They pee whenever they need to go, being held or not. They're like old people or babies, only without the diapers.

And yes, My name is Kurt B***. What do you plan to do with that information?

I want to do that, but put a fish tank in instead. Have it go really close to the motherboard so that it looks like the whole thing is full of water. I'll need a high power fan to blast a current of air across the motherboard to make up for the small space so the fishies don't boil. I need another computer so I can do this. :)

You DO know they can't control their bladders.
Actually this isn't really accurate.

Rats are small and they drink a lot of water, so they need to pee often. You can teach your rat not to outright pee on you by placing it back in the cage everytime it happens. You can also teach your rat to return to the cage, or a litter box, to urinate. You'll get peed upon on a regular basis when they're young, but after two or three months almost never.

Some rats, males in particular, will scent mark stuff with drops of urine- and I mean TINY drops. Females and neutered males rarely do this.

A frightened rat will pee on you. A rat will be frightened when handled by a human for the first time :P

I gave away my guinea pig last summer too, but willingly 'cause I wasn't that responsible. I've taken care of hamsters though and they're much easier. I'd suggest Teddy Bear (Syrian) over Dwarf 'cause with Syrian, once they're tamed they stay tamed but if you stop giving your drawf attention, they may bite next time.

 I'ma get a fish.
