Any ideas on how to fix this?

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Post by Mario » Mon Mar 19, 2007 5:32 pm

I am using a PS1 5" screen for my NOTG (Nintendo On The Go), and I was a little careless opening the case. I accidentially smashed the voltage convertor at the top for the cold cathode backlight. Does anybody have a ps1 screen schematic so I can find out what to replace it with? Or is anybody selling a broken ps1 screen so I can extract the voltage convertor? Thanks in advance.

Well, you might as well do it now... unless you want to rebuild the original back light.

heh despite your protestations, you're going to have to LED mod it...it's much easier than trying to replace/repair the CCFL Backlight, and the LED mod decreases power consumption as well.

No, the light itself isnt broken, it's the transformer at the top of the circuit board.

Ah sorry, I missed that. I'd still recommend the LED mod though.

I assume Skyone is PMing you about selling you a transformer he de-soldered off of one of his PSOne screens. That should work. If not, I wish I could, but I did the exact same thing you did when I opened mine! I was just gonna LED mod it from the beginning anyway... like you should... but neither I, nor can anyone else here tell you what to do.

I know I should led mod it, but I spent $50 on that screen, and I don't want to take any more chances. Besides, I'm not exactly making a small portable, 'cause this thing is running off of D batteries!
