tbh i've never seen a portable by you either Retromaster, but I don't really care if you have or haven't. I have never done anything with electronics for a few valid reasons (1. too costly, 2. too risky, 3. too many injuries involved and even fatal if you muck around without knowing what your doing (i.e. CRT TV picture tubes has close too 100000 volts of electricity in it?)
Somebody please buy my Dreamcast >_> £20+shipping

10K, not 100K. Monochrome CRT's usually only have a few thousand.
10k can easily kill you, burn you, or at least fling your arm or maybe your whole body across the room, depending on the circumstances. 100k would probably send you in flames!

Back then: /me blows into cartridge and inserts into Gameboy. Nintendo scrolls down.
Now: /me blows into cartridge, inserts into Gameboy. Turns on. Pushes one corner of the screen. Again and again. Then I push the center. Fiddle with the batteries and that red LED comes on. Nintendo scrolls down.

Wow... I would say something about how much CRAP there is in this thread, but instead, I will try and get it back on track.
For me, it's a tie between the lovely harmony of "SEEEEGGGAAA" on the Genesis, and the "BBRRRRRWWWRRRRNNN" of the PlayStation logo on the old PSX. Both make me feel good every time I hear/see them. I guess you associate those sounds with the games that you enjoyed so much on them.
Did N64 have a startup screen? I'm pretty sure it didn't. Just wondering.
I didn't even notice Xbox had a startup screen until I read this thread I'm getting old...

The N64 had no BIOS. All startup screens are programmed into the games themselves.

I know only of the NES and atari.
I can barely remember what the startup screen looked like..
the only N64 I ever played was 2 years ago at an 8 year old kids house. I broke in to steal his NES, but, as a die hard gamer, I had to play his SNES and n64.
not many people have succeeded in the quest to portabilize it.
I would think a 1996 system would have some sort of bios.
did the PS1 have one?
