Givin it a shot!

Post by G-force »

I went to a pawn shop and (finally) they had some DCs in so I bought one ($15 not bad)! Before even testing it too see if it works I opened it up and to my surprize (not!) the case had plenty of room inside for fitting the controlls.
So heresisat I have planned for it: Original DC case for a case( shocking!! ), flip up, removable, 5 inch PS one LCD, 8 AA's for power, unofficial controller with a modded PS one anaolog stick replacing the crappy one (a lot like Dave's DCp), probably rewire the the VMU to the top of the cd lid, and thats about all I got plans for right now.

Power is where I am stuck, I was thinking I could buy some voltage regulators (12v,5v, 3.3v) and that would work, but do I need capacitors in front of the regulator?
Or maybe I could use a GC power board like Gamelver thought of?
Anybody know what dave used? I'll try emailing him when I get my PC back from the shop

Two things you should think about first. One is that you should buy a 3rd party controller, the ones made by Sega are not good for moding and dare I say it suck. Two is if your using Alkaline batteries you'll have enough power just wont have the amps to run it for long, change over to rechagables and add 2 more batteries so you have 12v.

As for power. I'd say to save yourself some frustration and money, buy either a ATX power board or use the GameCube PSU.

Good luck.

If you understand how hall effect switches work, than the official controller is the best. Thats what I'm using :D

I'm relatively sure that the board circled in red is a GC psu, so if it is, that's what Dave used :). also, since I tried hooking up the DC to a GC psu and it powered on, so I'm pretty sure that the gc psu will work fine :). my only DC is a bit screwed up, though, so I'm probably gonna get a new one (for around $15 probably :)) and I'll make sure it turns on and is completely functional :).
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Yep, 3rd party all they way baby! That official controller is just plain wacked up. :? I already bought the controller a month ago planning for the future. :)

As for my batterys they are rechargeable and for some reason output 1.4v to 1.5v, dont know why....But I like it! All together it makes a little over 12v when I tested the leads of the battery holder.

Thanks for the pic Gamelver! I think I'll try some regualators first, because I would like to make this as cheap as possible. I'll probably end up going for the GC PSU in the end, but I like to make things hard

Today I took apart the controller and I noticed that for L and R it used some sort of sliding pot with 3 wires on it.
I'm thinking I could just put a switch there insted of a pot.
I cant think of any games where you need to have the L or R levers in between open and completely closed. Think it would work?

Oh, yeah I tested the DC and it wont even turn on! Rip-off pawn shop! Sadly I cant even return it becuase its to far away to drive.
Any ideas on how to fix it? The screen is completely black, but the LED comes on.
Hmm...maybe half of the DC power board is busted, I'll try checking for voltage later today.
