DarkStone managed to edit the PSP XMB waves. Here's a screenshot I took:

How did he manage that? Is there a guide? I'd like to make a custom one.

Another one.
You take system_plugin_bg.rco, cut out everything before 78DA, deflate it with icon-coder, edit the A.B.C.D.E. etc part of the deflated file, run it through icon-coder to (inflate?) it, pad it, put it back in the system_plugin_bg.rco.
Then of course you flash it and hope that your edits have an affect.

Do you have to update to 3.03 OEc before you go to 3.10 OEa? I just put 3.03a on this past Friday....can I go from 3.03a to 3.10a?

Its a Full install, meaning it does everything a normal PSP Update would do (Except it only runs on certain firmwires)

I got 3.10 OE-A on my PSP like 2 hours ago. So far i've been busy playing Battle Tanx. Now we just need to make a USB-B PSOne controller add on and we are good to go :D

Maybe its just me but I just don't see where 3.10 OE improves anything. Most of my emulators run at 333MHz already, and having the XMB run at 333 would just be a waste of energy.

Are there any big improvements I missed- aside from playing commercial 3.10 games?

I just released a xmbWave editor:

This program lets you edit the wave on your XMB of your PSP.
http://www.sendspace.com/file/1hak55

Read the readme before you do anything.

Example of how to hex:

Before hex editing it.

After hex editing it.
Just mix up the letters and numbers and stuff!
Don't go too crazy or the waves will disappear!

Stuff you can post: screenshots, tips, etc.

Happy wave hacking! //from DarkStone and vb_master

Is it safe to use those custom XMB icon packs, etc on 3.10 OE-A? I mean, you can't really brick. I have my flash0 and flash1 backed up. I might try it.

EDIT: I updated the first page with useful info and downloads. It'd be great if this would be sticked.

gameboot.pmf is in flash0:/vsh/resource.

X-flash doesn't work on 3.10 oe yet, just up to 3.03 OE-B. It kicks you out on OE-C or 3.10 OE. I don't know if pspset works, though. It's probably safe if it's been designed for any 3.xx firmware, though. I use Flash Agent for flashing mine. It works pretty well and you can free up 2.5 megabytes by removing japenese fonts, so you can flash oversized gameboots and such.

And that wave editor is sweet! I'm gonna try that out as soon as I fix my 3.10 oe install (the web browser won't start for some reason).

EDIT: I just went back to default settings and my browser worked. But I can't get the xmb wave changer to work without completely getting rid of the wave... I geuss I'll just try again.
EDIT2: I finally got the wave editor to work. But I can't get it to change very much without it completely going away.

Any tips on how to maintain a somewhat wavy pattern? Mine always ending up looking more jumbled, like Zevlar's in your post.

is there a "for idiots" direct tutorial? or does that go into legal battles we don't want to entangle ourselves with?

I recommend using devhook to try it out before flashing it...

Why would you need to do that? It's so easy to reflash it...

@krepticor- just download one off of the qj thread.

And now the waves come in all colors!

EDIT: I finally made one I like!

And does anyone know if you can get a custom topmenu_plugin.rco to work in 3.10 OE? Mine just turns off when I flash one.
