ghetto hdd switch

Post by Klefmung »

I don't want to have a dual boot master/slave for my comp, but rather two different systems to prevent spyware spread from one, etc... I want to find the power line, cut the ribbon wire off, and wire it to a manual switch and glue it to the outside of the case... how would this fare?

For a cut and dry approach I would say cut the ground for the two HDD power cables, you might have to do both ground cables. Then wire them to a three position switch, 1-0-2. So you have hard drive one, both hard drives off and hard drive two.

Personally though I think if you have the money, but a removable hard drive rack. That way you can simply plug on drive in if you want to use it or the other. I've used these at school and they are very useful when dealing with multiple systems or OS.

Good luck.

Yes, a drive rack is the best idea, and they're not very expensive.

They have cheaper ones, but they're plastic. (The aluminum ones hold up better.)
