G2s offical review of the MAx Media Player for the DS

Post by gamer2 » Wed Nov 22, 2006 9:35 pm

Have you ever wanted a GP2x but had a DS instead? Have you considered selling that DS to buy a GP2x? You don't have to!

Not with the Datel Media Player for the Nintendo DS. What this does is it makes your DS into small GP2x. It will allow you to play Movies, Music, home brew and even emulators. (SNES Don't like to work properly). There are some drawbacks.

Cons
1)The cheap version dont have the Card you need to run the program, you have to buy it separate. Which is a real pain if they dont offer the other 2

2)The screen is small on a DS, I dont think its fit for watching a full length film.

3)You have to encode the video files to a format called .d3v. Only .d3v movies are playable with this program. Long encoding process.

4)If you have an Old DS the movies appear dark and have a noisy picture.

Pros
1)A cheap alternative to a GP2x

2)Great sound quality with the DS and Mp3s

3)Emulation is possible on DS now

4)2 screen Ipod, lol.

Overall, I think people who want a GP2x but cant afford one should get this device for their Nintendo DS.

I am enjoying this device except for the small screen of the DS

into small GP2x
hate to break it to ya but ds (eve lite) is bigger than gp2x, gp2x is just slightly larger than original gameboy advanced. also a new DS is only 60$ more than a ds. this product is in no way superior to the capabilities of the gp2x, has several drawbacks. in my opinion its nice to have probably but no substitute for the real deal!

I'm pretty close to ordering one. It will probably wind up being part Christmas haul and part my purchase. I'm looking to get a 2 gig SD card and the TV cable. (Already have a bunch of 2650 mAh rechargeable AAs... 8))

What's the voltage and diagram for the power adapter?

I don't have one yet. but from what I've heard they're pretty awesome.

Except for the lack of a 3D accellerator, they're more powerful than the DS:

One 67 MHz ARM946E-S (ARM) and one 33 MHz ARM7TDMI, 4 MB RAM

vs

2 200 mhz ARM920T processors, 64 MB RAM

I had a PSP. Decided I didn't like and sold it to get a GP2x. Decided I didn't like it and sold it to get a DS.

I still have my DS, because I love the available games. I also look forwards to getting a passme device and a flash cart for Genesis and Snes emulation.

GP2x is obviously more powerful, but its controls and battery life annoyed me, and it didn't have any particularly high quality games all to itself.

I don't know. Just food for thought. What works for me may not for you.

The thing is only an Alternative device to the GP2x, can never replace the real thing.
