im used to the 78 series, but what's a 2405? im guessing it's 5v, but what does it "do" differently"?

oh ok, i thought all 7805s were the to-220...gannon wrote:Ok, so 3 pin TO-220 with the markings 2405. Also, not all 7805s are in that package, some are in a TO-92, TO-251, etc..
the other marking on the thing is NEC Japan.. it has other numbers on it, but im not home right now, and can't read it...

ok, thanks...
the 2405 in my Sega CD gets VERY hot... can this be a problem point in my sega CD?
mainly, as posted on many other forums (and no real answers as to what the solution is), it plays music CDs, but fails on Sega CD games, be it original discs or backup CD-Rs.. but if I let it "warm" up for about 20 minutes to 4 hours, it plays game great, problem free..
being as how hot the 2405 gets, is it possible it's the cause of it? and if so, can a 7805 be a direct replacement?
