1) The brain uses most of the energy in your body.usbcd36 wrote:When you sleep, your brain weakens the new links it has formed that day. If it didn't, your brain would take more energy to power than the rest of your body in two days. By weakening those links, it weakens your memories--slightly. But this only happens in deep sleep, not REM, where you have dreams.Kurt_ wrote:No, I mean the chemicals that control your emotions and such. Not quite sure where it is, but iot's somewhere in the middle of your brain. The something or others and such! You know!?
I'm lacking names right now, but your brain needs to rebuild some chemicals and such.
At least I think that's what happens…
I heard about it a year ago (or so), so I don't remember it entirely.
2) It doesn't "weaken" "links" (should be called 'Associations'). It reorganises your memory into the most efficient routes, one way of which it does this is REENFORCING current neural connections...

When this happens to me, it is usialy the same dream of me getting a big cookie from my mom. Then I wake up when I crack my hand on the wall.vb_master wrote:One time I dreamed I got something I wanted and I woke up and was like WTF where is my thing. That has actually happened to me several times.
I don't think it means sharing dreams. I thought it ment visiting people in your own dream.Meh wrote:The visiting other peoples dreams bit is BS.

I positively hate it when that happens!vb_master wrote:It happened again last night and I am really tired.lifeisbetterwithketchup wrote:I have done that, too. What's even worse is when I keep waking up going back to sleep and having the same bad dream continue, like one time when I ate left overs right before bed after reading 50% or so of the User Friendly archive and I had a nightmare in which I was Greg doing tech support, and it wouldn't go away no matter how many times I woke up!

I'M NOT ALONE!!! I'M NOT ALONE!!!
One time, when I was little, I had this dream, and I wanted to know if it was a dream, so I hit my head on the wall or something and I didn't feel it! And I tried it again on the floor and it was like there was this forcefield or something, and I couldn't feel it! It was nuts!
Actually, I do this for a lot of dreams! Sometimes I bite my tongue, too.
And I think last night, or the night before, I had a dream where this person made this website about me. They somehow got all these pictures of me and made a fansite... And then the person came to my house and he was a little kid, and he wanted me to be his dad. Really wierd.
I have pretty good dream memory. I remember a dream I had when I was like 3!

Oh man, I've had that one. All of the sudden I start floating upward and no one sees me, and I can't make any noise!vskid wrote:I do, and now I know what its called. I prefer it to regular dreams, where you have no control at all and you cant scream for help if you're about to die (boy I have good dreams ). I also like to go back and do parts several different ways. Maybe thats why I can never fall asleep...

If you're looking at this post and it was made before 2008, just ignore it.

I'm sure we've all had the one where you jump off a cliff/building/something seemingly infinitely high, & you fall in slow motion & wake up...

Last night, after reading half the wiki article, I actually had several dreams I remembered, which almost never happens, and I remember them fairly clearly, even now, 10 hours after I woke up.
3 times in my dream I actually noticed something out of place, and once I actually stopped in my tracks in the dream, thinking... "this isn't right..." Which I NEVER do.
I never quite got the hint that I was dreaming, but I came quite close, far closer than I ever have. Maybe there's some truth behind this stuff...

I remember a few here and there. I have some screwed up dreams sometimes...
One specific time (in a dream) I was in study hall in middle school and I looked at my watch and remembered "oh wait this is a dream. This watch doesn't show the correct time." Then I woke up for one reason or another and I was only off by a half hour! (well twelve and a half hours... you get the idea. )
I can usually clearly remember dreams for about 15 minutes after I wake up, then it's all gone.

Hm, I usually don't remember dreams until hours, sometimes days after I wake up!

Anyways, lucid dreaming kind of happens naturally for me. About half of the dreams I have are probably lucid. It's pretty fun when you can do anything you want without any concequnces (sp).
I'd imagine right now you wish you were a cuttlefish...
