uploading youtube files

Post by ganonbanned » Sat Sep 23, 2006 8:10 pm

About a year ago my friend put some hilariously crappy videos of him on a website his friend made. eventually The site got around school, and the vids were tooken down to be saved from embarassment. I asked around, and nobody had it downloaded on the PC, but earlier today I was deleting some old files and found the vis. :) . I want to put them on youtube :twisted: :twisted: , but there saved as .wpl (windows media player) files. youtube doesnt accept them. How can I convert them, and what file does youtube accept?

MediaCoder should convert them to something more standard.

Are you sure they're not WMV?

EDIT:

Question: when I look at the properties, It says " opens with Windows Media player". I can change it. should I change it to realplayer?

Windows Media Format < *

or...

Windows Media Format != Good

As vb_master said, get MediaCoder. Use that to convert it to an MPEG file. If that doesn't work, transcode it with VLC Media Player, but be prepared to tweak settings until YouTube will accept it. (VLC is pretty lax about which formats you use, but most everything else, WiMP included, will spit the file back at you if it's not exactly what it expects.)

Also, why not go with Google Video instead of YouTube? At least then people will be able to download copies... (well, without a seperate website anyways...)

While your at it, bring the resolution down to YouTube's player's native resolution (320X240), that should cut uploading time in half.
