Problem with PC

Post by Sword_Gun » Mon Aug 21, 2006 5:26 pm

Hey, my sisters computer is going CRAZYYY.

Seriously, when my sisters computer turns on it says
thats macaffee isnt the "standard" Firewall, and thats mcaffee was installed wrong.

THEN,
When she turns it on also, it brings her to the WIN XP LOG IN SCREEN, and we only have 1 user account and it doesnt have a password.

Also, when ever your on the desktop and you leave it on for like it turns OFF, automatically. (Happenes rarely, its NOT overheating and it only happens when I think "should I turn it off"")

We need some help. We have ran mcaffee, nortons, spybot, ad-ware away.

so other than your firewall not being installed properly... nothing is really wrong? the login screen is just something under network settings. the crashing could be anything. bad ram, poorly seated CPU, software... virus. who knows.

but yeah. perhaps just uninstall the mcaffe and reinstall it?

i dont think you need to format it quite yet...

Yeah the double app. thing is something that heppens. Besides the fact that it slows the system down, really it does nothing else, you can eventually get the application closed, and when that happens the duplicate goes too.

As for the firewall thing, be sure the Windows firewall is disabled. You can't have 2 software firewalls running on the same machine. They only have conflicts with each other and besides the Windows Firewall isn't a whole firewall anyways.

And lets not forget that you should run CheckDisk and Disk Defrager at least once a month, if you use the computer a lot. If you don't use it a lot it still needs it every couple of months.

Disk Check is the tool that is along side Disk Defrager. It goes through the disk sector by sector seeing if the hard drive is ok. The too doesn't run when you're in the OS, it's just schedueled to run it before you login on the next time you start up Windows.

P.S. If she's impatient, then tell her to run these tools either at night or when she's away from the computer. So just start them and let them work while she's gone.

You might want to check the Power Options or Power Management or what ever it is on the Control Panel and see if it's set to hibernate (shut off) after a set amount of inactivity, that gets me all the time :x.
