Portable PS2 Build, *Pics inside*
Moderator:Moderators
Hi Guys,
Well its come, i have been a member for ages, but barely posted, instead reading every little scrap i could on the forums, and waiting every few months for ben to release a new portable.
I did attempt a gamecube build, but got thrown off due to battery concerns. But now that ps2 prices have gone down quite a bit i have taken the plunge and bought one, and with only having bought one game have decided to portablise it.
I have a basic idea what i want to do, currently at the moment the screen is still unmodded as is the ps2, but have got it running off batteries as a start. Just running it to see how much life i will get out of them with no led mod. (that said i will be modding it, as its been running for 45mins now and the battery reads half(ish)
I know there is so many posts here than start with the ps2 build but fade off, I reaaaaaly reaaaaly want a portable ps2 so hopefully in for the long haul.
Anything to look out for let me know
(and yes i know the screen is green, hoping to fix that via a matrix modchip)

Well powered up and playing FFX and watching about 10mins of a dvd and a PS2 demo disc it has been powered for just under 2 hours, which im pretty happy about.
Im hoping the led mod will allow a extra 30mins or so.
Tommorow i shall tackle the relocation of the dvd motor cable and dvd position motor thing and update how it all went.
Stay tuned! getting excited about this now!

Wow...
now i know why no1 else aside from ben has done a east-west configuration ps2, As relocating those connectors is HARD!
I was thinking i could relocate both connectors in 3hrs or so, its taken that just to get this far!
Popped open the case and taken all junk off the logic board, very carefully taken out the dvd unit and desoldered the motor power cable.
I'm going to have to get a set of tweezers before i go any further as these ide cables are tiny. and i need to be able to hold it there while i solder.
But so far so goods, im hoping to finish the motor cable and at least have half of the access cable done on saturday or before ive only got a few hours a day i can spend on this, but happy with the progress so far.
Innocent PS2
Exposed Innards
DVD drive removed
Everything else removed
DVD drive in its new home
The cables have this far to go
TINY LITTLE BUGGER!
Bluetack is underated

Looking good. You can do the clip on thing, or build a socket for them.
